The library attracts young readers.
Bac Ninh Library No. 2 is one of the popular destinations for young readers during the summer. Every year, the library prepares its facilities and adds a rich collection of materials suitable for the needs, interests, and age groups of the children.
The reading room and book corner are renovated and arranged neatly and tidily, ensuring adequate lighting and temperature to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, sparking interest in young readers, and also providing free reader cards.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, a staff member at Bac Ninh Library No. 2, said: "In recent months, the number of readers visiting the library has remained high. In May alone, the library welcomed over 2,000 readers, not including hundreds of students participating in experiential activities."
Around the end of May and beginning of June, the library serves an average of 300 to 400 readers per day. It is predicted that during these three summer months, the number of readers visiting the library will continue to increase, possibly by more than 50% compared to the months during the school year.
In addition to providing on-site reading and borrowing services, Bac Ninh Library No. 2 also assigns staff with communication and guidance skills to organize experiential activities suitable for each age group, such as: reading aloud to children, guiding children to look at books, coloring, storytelling based on books, writing book reviews, answering quick questions, identifying historical figures and literary works, etc.
In addition, library staff regularly interact and exchange information with readers about good and meaningful books, or advise readers on books with content suitable to their interests, needs, and age.
Nguyen Lam Phong, an 8th-grade student at Ve An Junior High School (Kinh Bac ward), said that since 7th grade, the library has been a familiar place for him to access many books of different genres.
My family also has a bookshelf, but the library offers a more diverse and abundant source of materials. Besides reading books there, I also frequently borrow books to take home and continue exploring new things.
This summer, Lam Phong aims to read over 100 books, including comics and self-help/knowledge books. One of Phong's favorites is "Sowing Seeds with Great People," because the stories of perseverance and the aspirations of the characters inspire him in his studies and life.
Bring children closer to books.
Summer vacation is a precious time for children to explore the world in their own way. Therefore, in addition to playing, many families focus on cultivating a reading habit in their children.

During the summer, children can freely play and enjoy reading their favorite books. |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu, residing in Yen Man residential area (Kinh Bac ward), shared: “My youngest child has just finished first grade, so I often take her to the library to access a wide variety of books, from children's stories to useful books that help her develop language skills, expand her knowledge, and practice reading. My two older children are also regular readers at the library.”
I've found that reading not only helps children accumulate knowledge but also develops their thinking skills, nurtures their souls, and inspires beautiful dreams. Especially during the summer, when they have more free time, exposing children to books is a useful way to keep them away from electronic devices, while simultaneously building a habit of self-learning and a love for books from a young age."

Family is a crucial factor in "activating" a love of reading in children. It's not enough to simply encourage it verbally; grandparents and parents need to become role models by reading daily. When children see their loved ones engrossed in books, a love of reading will be naturally inspired.
Always hoping her child has a safe, enriching summer away from electronic devices, Ms. Hoang Thi Hai Quynh (Vo Cuong ward), whose child is in primary school, said that her family is proactively building a reading habit for her child through small daily activities.
She shared: "My husband and I both work in the industrial zone, so we don't have much time for our child. However, this summer, in addition to trying to spend time reading with our child whenever possible, I also look for clubs and reading spaces for children so that she can socialize with friends who share similar interests and discover more good books."
The precious summer months become even more meaningful when families and communities work together to create friendly reading spaces and organize diverse activities such as book-related quizzes and storytelling, book clubs, and book-related experiential activities.
This creates a healthy environment for children to stay away from electronic devices and opens doors to knowledge, contributing to nurturing their souls, shaping their character, and fostering beautiful dreams.
