Digital transformation prevents counterfeiting and intellectual property infringement.

Báo An GiangBáo An Giang16/04/2025

With the rapid development of digital technology , commercial business activities are constantly expanding in scope and scale; transcending the limitations of traditional markets and thriving on e-commerce platforms and social networks such as Lazada, Shopee, Facebook, Zalo, TikTok, etc.

Besides the benefits that e-commerce platforms offer, such as helping businesses expand their markets, reduce costs, increase profits, and support fast payments, these platforms still have many limitations in online buying and selling, especially the problem of counterfeit and smuggled goods; the increasing diversity of business models involving foreign elements and the risk of disputes with partners in the electronic transaction environment. In particular, the sophisticated nature of intellectual property infringement on these platforms makes consumers hesitant to shop and pay online.

To update information for management agencies, raise awareness among the business community and society as a whole about the role of digital transformation in detecting, preventing, and handling counterfeit goods, the Department of Science and Technology organized a training course on the topic "Digital Transformation in the field of combating counterfeit goods, smuggling, and intellectual property infringement." This is an opportunity for businesses to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the importance of digital transformation in the fight against counterfeit goods, smuggling, and intellectual property infringement; share practical experiences, introduce new technological solutions applied in practice, and celebrate World Intellectual Property Day on April 26th.

Delegates attending the training course

At the training session, representatives from provincial departments and agencies; People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities; businesses and cooperatives listened to Mr. Tran Giang Khue, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Representative Office of the Intellectual Property Office, present and disseminate in-depth knowledge revolving around three main topics: Digital transformation in production and business activities and the prevention and combating of counterfeit goods, smuggled goods, and intellectual property infringement in An Giang; the current situation of digital transformation in the prevention and combating of counterfeit goods, smuggled goods, and intellectual property infringement; and the protection of intellectual property rights for businesses during the digital transformation process.

Businesses shared that this is an opportunity for the business community to seek and propose solutions for applying digital transformation in the field of combating counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement, aiming to build a transparent and sustainable business environment.

According to Mr. Tran Giang Khue, the State has strengthened propaganda efforts to prevent and combat counterfeit goods; countermeasures have been implemented synchronously and regularly, with particular emphasis on the digital environment. At the same time, the legal regulatory system is increasingly being perfected to be strong enough to handle violations; mechanisms and policies are updated and reformed to suit practical realities and technological developments; and international cooperation on the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights continues to be promoted. Mr. Khue emphasized that businesses need to proactively carry out legal procedures to protect their intellectual property; apply modern management measures, leverage Industry 4.0 and digital transformation to protect themselves; build specialized departments to manage, monitor, and protect intellectual property rights; and proactively request and coordinate with relevant agencies in handling infringements, especially in the field of e-commerce. Simultaneously, they need to respect the intellectual property rights of others. Consumers need to "say no" to counterfeit, fake, and substandard goods; proactively inform businesses or authorities when they discover infringing goods and demand protection of their legitimate rights.

According to the Department of Science and Technology, to effectively prevent and combat counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement, it is necessary to promote the application of digital transformation, combined with modern technological solutions in traceability and market monitoring. The Department will continue to strengthen propaganda, raise awareness and responsibility of organizations and individuals participating in e-commerce activities, especially in complying with the law and not trading or selling counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, or substandard goods.
