According to CNN, CIA Director William Burns warned that Ukraine could lose to Russia this year if it does not receive more military aid from the United States.
Speaking at the George W. Bush Center, William Burns argued that with substantial military support and morale boost, Ukraine is fully capable of holding out through 2024. However, without further aid, the situation would be far worse. Burns warned that Ukraine risks losing the war this year, or may find itself forced to accept unfavorable conditions in order to reach a political solution to the conflict.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also warned that his country would lose the conflict with Russia unless it received more military support.
Burns' remarks came after House Speaker Mike Johnson presented a foreign aid package, but it needs further support to move forward with discussions.
The United States remains Ukraine's largest military aid provider, with tens of billions of dollars in security assistance and a consistent commitment to supporting Kyiv for as long as needed. However, opposition from hardline Republican lawmakers has shaken the U.S.'s ability to maintain this support for Ukraine.
