In Vietnam, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is the model chosen by the company to enter the all-electric vehicle market. Ford's first SUV, initially launched at 2.599 billion VND , recently had its listed price adjusted to 1.699 billion VND .

Sharing the Mustang name with Ford's legendary muscle car line, will the American automaker's first all-electric SUV be a compelling enough model?

Muscular appearance

First, it's important to note that, despite containing the word Mustang in its name, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is not an electrified version of the iconic Ford Mustang muscle car.

From the moment it was first launched, the use of the word "Mustang" in the name of the all-electric SUV model has sparked controversy.

Ford had its reasons for leveraging the name of its famous muscle car to attract attention, but consumers quickly realized that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is a purely electric vehicle with little connection to the familiar Mustang legend.

However, upon closer examination of its exterior, the Ford Mustang Mach-E still exudes a muscular feel, evident in the prominent creases running along the hood, the front end, and the rear of the vehicle.

As a purely electric SUV, the Ford Mustang Mach-E features a closed grille design, with the iconic Mach-E muscle car logo prominently displayed in the center. Surrounding this closed "grille" is a black detail with a horseshoe-like shape.

The muscular lines continue along the body of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, connecting from the sharply designed LED headlights to the rear wheel arches, before reaching the taillights.

At the rear of the Ford Mustang Mach-E are three vertically arranged LED taillights, divided into distinct sections. This is a familiar iconic design on the Ford Mustang muscle car line, and along with the horse logo, these are rare details that show a connection between the Mustang Mach-E and the Mustang muscle car.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E's wheels consist of 19-inch aluminum alloy rims with an impressive double-spoke design. Both the front and rear wheels are equipped with high-performance disc brakes.

Front suspension: Independent coil springs, stabilizer bar, hydraulic shock absorbers. Rear suspension: Independent multi-link, coil springs, stabilizer bar, hydraulic shock absorbers.

Thanks to its purely electric nature, the Ford Mustang Mach-E doesn't require much under-hood space for a gasoline engine. This area is therefore occupied by a small 81-liter, drainable storage compartment, allowing users to store small items or use it as a place to keep a portable charger.

Behind the second-row seats, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has a standard cargo space of 402 liters. Folding down the rear seats increases this space to 1,420 liters.

The interior is packed with technology.

For those encountering the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the first time, the electronic door opening mechanism of this all-electric SUV can be quite confusing.

To open the two front doors, users need to touch the round button located on the B-pillar; the doors will automatically spring open by about 40mm. A small, aerodynamically designed handle is conveniently placed to facilitate easy door opening.

Similarly, for the two rear doors of the car, users need to press a round button on the C-pillar and can open them via a small handle located on the frame.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E's cockpit gives the impression of a technologically advanced electric vehicle. A large, rectangular 15.5-inch touchscreen, positioned vertically in the center, immediately impresses the user.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E's leather seats feature red stitching, giving the interior a sporty feel. The car has a two-row seating configuration, accommodating up to five people, including the driver.

Behind the three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching is a 10.2-inch screen. This screen displays important parameters that the driver needs to pay attention to during operation, including vehicle speed, battery capacity, etc.

Thanks to the electronic gear selector being moved behind the steering wheel, the area between the two front rows of seats in the Ford Mustang Mach-E is quite spacious. In this area, users are provided with a wireless charging pad, cup holders, and buttons to activate the electronic parking brake and hazard lights.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E's cockpit is also noteworthy for its B&O sound system, comprising a total of 10 speakers integrated in a rather interesting way around the car, on the dashboard, and around the air vents.

Ford's all-electric SUV boasts a panoramic glass roof. Thanks to the unique design of the glass, the Mustang Mach-E's cabin is said to be cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather.

The American automaker said it used a special material inside the roof glass to protect the cabin and passengers from the effects of UV rays.

Very powerful, but not quite "Mastiff" enough.

In the version currently sold in Vietnam, the Ford Mustang Mach-E features a dual electric motor setup, delivering a maximum output of 395 horsepower and a peak torque of up to 676 Nm.

Compared to the Ford Ranger Raptor with its 3.0L V6 gasoline engine, the Ford Mustang Mach-E's electric powertrain boasts comparable power (392 horsepower), but its torque of 583 Nm is significantly lower.

Thanks to its purely electric nature, the Ford Mustang Mach-E can achieve maximum torque almost instantly, making it capable of delivering the most exhilarating acceleration possible.

With just a slightly deeper press of the pedal, the electric SUV, weighing over 2 tons, can easily lunge forward, pinning the driver to the back of the seat.

The car comes equipped with three driving modes: Whisper, Active, and Untame. The Untame mode makes the steering wheel and throttle response more sensitive, and provides a feeling similar to downshifting during deceleration.

The audio experience is also enhanced in the cabin, and the interior lighting switches to a sporty orange. To add to the excitement, the car's display in Untame mode shows dynamic lines corresponding to the force exerted during acceleration and cornering.

Ford has made considerable efforts to incorporate as much muscle as possible into the Mustang Mach-E. However, for those who have a particular fondness for the roar of gasoline-powered cars, Ford's electric SUV may still not be a sufficiently satisfying model.

In Untame mode, the Mustang Mach-E's cockpit is filled with simulated engine roars. Simulated gear changes are also achieved through the regenerative braking system, but these are essentially no substitute for the emotional experience that muscle car enthusiasts seek.

Overall, the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV seems more suitable for those looking for a vehicle that serves both family needs and partially satisfies their passion for conquering high-speed roads. When choosing the Mustang Mach-E, users should expect to find less of the pure driving feel that made the legendary Mustang muscle car famous.

At launch, the Ford Mustang Mach-E was priced at 2.599 billion VND . More than half a year after its official debut, the price of Ford's all-electric SUV has dropped by 900 million VND, to its current price of 1.699 billion VND .

In addition to price reductions, Ford is also offering a 5-year free charging service for customers who purchase a Mustang Mach-E starting in April. Ford is also offering a mobile emergency charging service for Mustang Mach-E owners in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which can replenish approximately 20% of the battery capacity in 40 minutes.

The American automaker also announced a partnership with VETC to connect a nationwide network of charging stations, enabling customers to access charging stations from quality infrastructure partners, while also facilitating automatic payment and financial reconciliation.

Overall, with its current price of 1.699 billion VND , the Ford Mustang Mach-E has become considerably more affordable. It remains to be seen how the Vietnamese market will react to the new price of this all-electric SUV, but the cumulative sales of the Ford Mustang Mach-E since its launch have only reached 23 units, including 22 units last year.
