The province currently has 2,138 accommodation establishments with approximately 20,600 rooms and 740 homestays. In recent years, along with leveraging the advantages of climate, natural landscapes, and the cultural identity of ethnic groups, accommodation establishments have continuously invested in improving service quality and diversifying products. In January 2026 alone, tourism activities in the province recorded positive growth signals. Revenue from accommodation, food and beverage services, and travel and tourism services is estimated at over 1,010 billion VND, an increase of 5.95% compared to the previous month and 17.95% compared to the same period last year; the total number of visitors served reached approximately 513,000, an increase of over 25% compared to the same period. These figures show a clear recovery and growth trend, creating an important foundation for the spring tourism season.

In Bac Ha commune, Sao Mai Hotel is rushing to complete the final preparations, including decorating the lobby with a vibrant Tet (Lunar New Year) theme, creating a friendly and cozy impression from the moment guests arrive. The hotel currently has 70 rooms. In 2025, the hotel owner invested nearly 4 billion VND to repair and upgrade the guest rooms and improve auxiliary facilities.
Ms. Vu Tuyet Mai, the hotel owner, said: "We recognize that Tet (Lunar New Year) is an important occasion to make a good impression on tourists, so we have invested in and upgraded everything from guest rooms and reception areas to the electrical and water systems. Staff are assigned to shifts to ensure attentive service while also allowing them time to spend with their families. At this point, everything is ready to welcome guests during Tet."

In Sa Pa ward – a locality that is among the most popular tourist destinations in the country every spring – hotels have also recorded an early increase in bookings, with many hotels already fully booked since last month.
Ms. Dinh Thi Tron, owner of Dang Khoa Hotel with 50 rooms, shared: “In recent years, the trend of traveling during Tet (Lunar New Year) has become increasingly clear, especially when the holiday is extended. Sa Pa has a cool climate, beautiful scenery, and many unique cultural activities, so it attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists. My family has prepared manpower and decorated the space to welcome the spring well in advance.”
In addition to focusing on upgrading facilities, many hotels also prioritize training and developing their staff to be professional, improve communication skills, cultivate courteous behavior, and provide friendly service; while also ensuring food safety and hygiene, fire prevention and control, and security throughout the guest's stay.

While hotels focus on improving amenities, homestays emphasize creating unique experiences through local culture. In residential area 2, Nghia Lo ward, the Cuong Chinh homestay owned by Ms. Ha Thi Chinh's family is busy completing its decorations.
According to Ms. Chinh, to prepare for this year's Tet holiday tourist season, her family has replaced all the blankets, mattresses, and curtains in the guest rooms; and also invested in a new stilt house costing nearly 1 billion VND, increasing its capacity to about 50 guests per night.
Ms. Chinh shared: "During Tet (Lunar New Year), tourists often travel in groups of family and friends, so the demand for accommodation in community houses is quite high. We prepared early, ensuring clean and cozy accommodations while creating a truly authentic spring atmosphere in the highlands."

In addition, Homestay Cương Chinh has prepared well-equipped kitchen areas in each community house, including tea tables and barbecue grills for guests to gather around. The family proactively grows vegetables, raises chickens, and keeps fish to ensure a fresh food supply. Therefore, guests staying during Tet (Lunar New Year) will be able to enjoy free Thai ethnic specialties such as black sticky rice cakes, smoked meat, and grilled stream fish, all prepared by the family. The performing arts group is currently practicing regularly every evening, ready to perform the Xòe and Khắp dances to welcome guests to the spring.
In Púng Luông commune, Giàng A Dê, owner of the Hello Mù Cang Chải homestay, is also planning to organize experiential tours during Tet (Lunar New Year). Accordingly, tourists will be able to admire the vibrant pink blossoms of the Tớ Dày tree on the mountain slopes, participate in traditional festivals such as Xòe dance and throwing the "con" (a traditional game); experience pounding sticky rice cakes, competing in stick pushing, spinning tops, and painting with beeswax on fabric.

Mr. De said: “Tourists are increasingly interested in experiencing traditional culture and cuisine . Therefore, we not only provide accommodation but also organize activities so that tourists can truly immerse themselves in the Tet atmosphere of the highland people.”
The proactive approach of accommodation establishments also stems from the overall direction of the provincial tourism industry. Ms. Vu Thi Mai Oanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lao Cai province, said: in recent years, the trend of leisure tourism during Tet (Lunar New Year) has increased significantly. Lao Cai, with its advantageous climate, landscape, and unique cultural identity, has always been a preferred destination.
The Department has directed accommodation establishments to create a welcoming atmosphere similar to welcoming family members back home for Tet (Lunar New Year). From decorations and activities to service attitudes, everything is geared towards warmth and intimacy, so that tourists can truly experience the traditional Tet atmosphere.
In particular, during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, Sa Pa and many community tourism areas will host activities focusing on the traditional New Year of various ethnic groups, promising to attract a large number of tourists. This is not only an opportunity to increase revenue for accommodation establishments but also contributes to promoting the image of the land and people of Lao Cai.

With synchronized investments ranging from upgrading facilities and standardizing service quality to refreshing experiential products, it is clear that accommodation establishments in the province are ready to enter the peak season at the beginning of the year. The positive growth momentum right from the month leading up to Tet is an optimistic sign, but it also highlights the need to continue maintaining quality and reputation.
A new spring is knocking at the door. And amidst the bustling preparations, every hotel and homestay in Lao Cai is not only ready to welcome guests, but also harboring hopes for a prosperous, sustainable, and culturally rich tourism year.
