Xinhua News Agency reported on October 31 that the remains of former Prime Minister Li Keqiang were transported from Shanghai to Beijing on a special flight on October 27.
The cremation ceremony for the late Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will take place on November 2nd.
The politician, who was stepping down in March, unexpectedly passed away early on October 27th after a heart attack, at the age of 68.
The cremation ceremony will be held on November 2nd. In remembrance, authorities have ordered flags to be flown at half-mast throughout the country, from Tiananmen Square, Xinhua Gate, the Great Hall of the People, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, local governments, the Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions, to border crossings, seaports, and diplomatic missions abroad.
People laid flowers in remembrance of Li Keqiang in Zhengzhou, Henan province on October 29. Li had previously served as the Party Secretary of Henan Province.
Li Keqiang was a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China for the 17th, 18th, and 19th terms (2007-2022), and served as Prime Minister from 2013-2023.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Li was praised as "an outstanding party member, a staunch communist fighter, a proletarian revolutionary, a statesman, and a brilliant party and state leader."
Li's death has shocked many in China. According to Bloomberg, residents of Hefei, Anhui province, and Zhengzhou, Henan province, where he lived and worked, placed flowers in the streets to commemorate him over the weekend.
