On June 3, speaking over the phone with Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Tran Thu Van (T.'s mother) said that on May 29, doctors at Kien Giang General Hospital completed the procedures to transfer T. to Ho Chi Minh City Children's Hospital for better treatment.

More than 1.5 billion VND to support T.

The doctor also performed a second surgery and installed a colostomy for T. T.'s health is now stable and the wound is no longer bleeding.

"T. woke up and realized his leg was gone. He asked me if he could still go to school and get a prosthetic leg. His words made me feel sad. I encouraged him and said yes, as long as he gets better, I will take care of him when he goes back to school," Ms. Van choked up.

Ms. Van and Mr. Nguyen Chi Tam (Ms. Van's husband) are laborers with unstable incomes. The incident has made her family's situation even more difficult.

Worried about T., Mrs. Van stayed at the Children's Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Tam stayed home to work on the lake, weed, spray pesticides... to earn some extra money to send to take care of T.

"When T. had an accident, many people cared for him, loved him, and supported him. As for long-term treatment, I am always worried about him," said Ms. Van.

Mr. Tran Quoc Nhan - Principal of U Minh Thuong District Secondary and High School - said that when T. had a traffic accident, the school sent an open letter to teachers and local departments and agencies calling for support for the student.

Up to now, teachers, parents and everyone have shared their love and sent T. a sum of money.

"At the end of the appeal, the school received over 1.5 billion VND. With this amount, the school and local authorities plan to open a savings account to help T. cover long-term treatment costs," said Mr. Nhan.

Assessing speed and truck load for handling

Regarding the above incident, U Minh Thuong District Police informed that the unit is investigating, verifying and assessing the speed and load of the truck that collided with T.'s electric bike. Once there are specific results, local authorities will have appropriate handling directions.

Previously, Tuoi Tre Online reported that at around 10am on May 27, on National Highway 63 (Thanh Yen Commune, U Minh Thuong District, Kien Giang), Mr. D.TB - the driver of a truck with license plate 68H.022.XX - collided with the electric bike of NTAT and NTTN - 6th grade students of U Minh Thuong Secondary and High School.

The accident caused NTAT to be seriously injured, with both legs severed. NTTN suffered a broken arm.

A resident's camera recorded that T.'s electric bike was crossing the street on the way home when it collided with a truck coming from behind.
