Hanoi Police lost 0-2 to Hai Phong at their home stadium, Hang Day, in the third round of phase II of the V-League 2023 on the evening of July 29th.
Goals: Viet Hung 12', Tuan Anh 90'+4
In the early matches of this round, Thanh Hoa defeated Binh Dinh, while Hanoi beat Nam Dinh to climb to the top of the table. This situation demands that CAHN win against Hai Phong if they want to reclaim the position they have held for most of the season.

The home team started strongly with two consecutive close-range opportunities, but Jhon Cley and Gustavo Henrique both missed. In contrast, Hai Phong played effectively, even opening the scoring with their first chance in the 12th minute. From a pass on the right wing by Huu Son, Yuri Almeida miscontrolled the ball but it turned into an assist for Trieu Viet Hung, who finished from close range, beating Filip Nguyen.
Subsequently, Hai Phong created two more opportunities, but Yuri Almeida's header went wide of the post, and the home team remained ineffective in attack. Midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai continued to start this match, but failed to make any significant impact.
It wasn't until the second half that CAHN showed signs of improvement. In the 51st minute, Jhon Cley played a through pass to Gustavo Henrique, who backheeled the ball to Raphael Success, whose low shot hit the post. In the 78th minute, Van Thanh put the ball into the Hai Phong net, but the goal was disallowed because Gustavo Henrique was offside beforehand. Doan Van Hau also had a chance but headed wide of the post after a corner kick.
In the 85th minute, Doan Van Hau crossed from the left wing to Henrique, who ran in but didn't touch the ball; instead, the ball hit center-back Van Dat and bounced away. The CAHN players demanded a penalty, but referee Nguyen Dinh Thai did not consider the ball to have touched the Hai Phong defender's hand.

Despite numerous attacks, CAHN's goal was repeatedly threatened by counter-attacks. In the 90th minute, Hai Huy missed a clear shot, but four minutes later, he seized the opportunity. Facing Filip Nguyen, he played unselfishly, passing to Xuan Truong, but Giam Tuan Duong blocked the shot with his chest on the goal line. The ball rebounded to Tuan Anh, who finished to seal the 2-0 victory.
This was CAHN's third defeat in their last five matches. CAHN lost their top spot and dropped to third place with 28 points. Hanoi FC and Thanh Hoa both have 29 points, but the capital city team leads due to a better goal difference (+9 compared to +8).
