According to CAO, on May 22, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency announced the successful dismantling of a very large-scale drug trafficking ring operating across multiple provinces in the South and Central Highlands regions. Authorities arrested and prosecuted a total of 140 individuals involved.
In the second quarter of 2026, through investigation and intelligence gathering, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (PC04) discovered that Dang Phan Thanh Tung was a drug addict and involved in the small-scale illegal trafficking of drugs, operating in the areas of Ben Cat, Thoi Hoa, Binh Duong, Thu Dau Mot, Phu Loi, Thuan Giao, and An Phu wards.
Based on the above lead, and the identification of many more links and suspected individuals, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department established a special case to arrest the entire criminal network.

Starting with Dang Phan Thanh Tung, PC04 mobilized forces and resources and employed a comprehensive range of specialized investigative methods to conduct a thorough investigation, resolutely determined to "not just target the middle part, but arrest the entire network, the ringleaders, and prosecute those involved."

The police force successfully apprehended three "top-level" drug dealers who supplied drugs to Tung; simultaneously, they identified and dealt with 12 "lower-level" drug distribution branches that purchased drugs from Tung to resell or organize illegal use for addicts.
The investigation also uncovered complex, inter-provincial drug trafficking operations in the South and Central Highlands regions. Based on a tip about a major drug deal, PC04 deployed forces to intercept and apprehend a suspect while he was transporting over 5 kg of drugs from the Central Highlands to Ho Chi Minh City.
