Ho Chi Minh City strengthens cooperation with UNESCO.

On the afternoon of May 26th, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, received Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, Head of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Representative Office in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that Ho Chi Minh City has always considered UNESCO one of its important and reliable international partners. UNESCO's official recognition of Ho Chi Minh City as a member of the Global Learning Cities Network and the Global Creative Cities Network in the field of cinema is a milestone of profound significance, not only acknowledging the city's efforts but also opening up important opportunities for international cooperation in the future.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Cuong expressed his desire to continue receiving support and collaboration from UNESCO in strengthening cooperation on the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, mangrove ecosystem conservation, scientific research, and capacity building in management.

Looking forward to successfully organizing the ASEAN+4 Global Learning Cities Conference in November, Ho Chi Minh City hopes to continue receiving the cooperation and support of UNESCO in the preparation process and in connecting with international experts and experiences.

Comrade Nguyen Manh Cuong thanked UNESCO for creating favorable conditions for the city to host the conference, stating that this would be an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to promote its image and strengthen cooperation with other countries. Furthermore, Ho Chi Minh City hopes to receive guidance, professional support, and collaboration from UNESCO in assisting with the preparation of the scientific dossier for the Cu Chi Tunnels to be recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO…

Highly appreciating Ho Chi Minh City's action programs and its effective cooperation with UNESCO in Vietnam, Jonathan Wallace Baker affirmed UNESCO's readiness to support and share experience in preparing the scientific dossier for the Cu Chi Tunnels.

Thanking Ho Chi Minh City for agreeing to host the ASEAN+4 Global Learning Cities Conference, Jonathan Wallace Baker stated that this is proof of the city's commitment to promoting the development of a learning society, and an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to share its highly successful development experiences with other countries.
