From the "Godmother" program for children in extremely difficult circumstances to free meals delivered directly to poor patients, each simple act has contributed to spreading the image of Hanoi's police officers as people-oriented, responsible, and compassionate.

These are also practical activities of the Gia Lam Commune Police in response to the "Three Best" emulation movement launched by the Hanoi City Police, with the spirit of focusing strongly on the grassroots and serving the people.

Giving wings of love to underprivileged children.

In the small house where Dam My Linh and her son Nguyen Binh An are staying with relatives in Thuan Quang village, Gia Lam commune, the story of their family's plight is heartbreaking for anyone who hears it.

The Gia Lam commune police have adopted Nguyen Binh An as a foster parent to share his difficulties, provide motivation, and offer support so that he can overcome challenges and strive for a better future.

Binh An was born into a disadvantaged family. His father suffered from cancer, and the resulting complications left him with cerebral palsy. Family misfortunes continued when his parents separated, leaving Binh An and his mother without a stable home, forced to live with his uncle. Without a stable job, Ms. Linh had to peel onions or do any odd jobs she could find to earn money to support her son and make ends meet. When there was no work, their meals were meager. However, Ms. Linh's greatest worry wasn't her own hardships, but the future of her son.

"There were times I felt helpless because I loved my child but didn't know what to do to give her a better life. When the police officers from the commune showed concern and offered to sponsor her, my daughter and I were truly moved," Linh shared, her voice choked with emotion.

Understanding Ms. Linh's circumstances and concerns, and in response to the "Godmother" program launched by the Hanoi City Police, the Party Committee and Command of Gia Lam Commune Police directed the Women's Association of the Commune Police to coordinate with the Women's Union of the commune to identify and sponsor Nguyen Binh An. Accordingly, in addition to providing financial support for living expenses, clothing, toys, etc., the commune police officers also regularly visit and encourage the child, giving him the strength to overcome challenges in life.

Besides providing financial support for living expenses, clothing, toys, etc., the police officers of Gia Lam commune also regularly visit and encourage Binh An.

Whenever the police officers came to visit, Binh An was always excited. She shyly hugged the small gift they gave her, looking at them with grateful and emotional eyes.

For her, that care was not just about material support, but also about feeling loved and protected amidst the countless hardships and difficulties of life. Lieutenant Colonel Pham Dinh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Gia Lam Commune Police, said that the unit considers caring for children in difficult circumstances not only a responsibility but also an expression of the feelings of those working at the grassroots level.

"Currently, the Party Committee and the Police Command of the commune are continuing to meet and consider the conditions to be able to sponsor more disadvantaged cases in the area in the future," Lieutenant Colonel Pham Dinh Tuan said.

Spreading kindness through free meals.

In addition to supporting those less fortunate, the Gia Lam Commune Police also provide assistance to impoverished patients through the "Free Meal Donation" program at Gia Lam General Hospital.

Police officers and soldiers were busy from early morning preparing nutritious and hygienically safe meals to deliver to patients.

To ensure nutritious and safe meals, every day, from early morning, female members of the Women's Association and Youth Union of Gia Lam Commune Police, along with coordinating units in Thuan An, Bat Trang, and Phu Dong communes, are busy preparing. Some distribute the meals, others pack them in containers, and still others transport them to the wards and hospitals.

Hot meals were handed directly to patients and their families receiving treatment at the hospital by the officers and soldiers, along with sincere words of encouragement and support. Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, an inpatient at Gia Lam General Hospital, emotionally expressed: “Hospitalization costs patients a lot, so every penny saved reduces the burden. Therefore, these delicious, nutritious, and free meals provided by the police officers are truly practical and meaningful to us.”

What's commendable is that the program isn't just a short-term initiative; it will continue until the end of December this year. This means that many more patients in difficult circumstances will have some of their burdens eased during their treatment.

According to a representative of the Gia Lam Commune Police, social welfare activities such as the "Godmother" program or providing free meals not only aim to support people materially but also to spread a humane spirit and strengthen the bond between the police force and the people in the area, in line with the spirit of the "Three Best" emulation movement, contributing to building the image of a capable, responsible, humane, and people-serving police officer in Hanoi. "We hope that these small but practical actions will help people trust and feel closer to the local police force. This is also a motivation for officers and soldiers to continue striving to perform their duties well in serving the people," Lieutenant Colonel Pham Dinh Tuan expressed.

These small but practical actions contribute to building greater trust and closeness between the people and the local police force.

Amidst today's hectic pace of life, the bond between the police force and the people is sometimes forged through very simple things: a word of inquiry, a helping hand at the right time, or a nutritious meal on a difficult day. And it is through these simple yet meaningful acts that the beautiful image of Hanoi's police officers serving the people continues to be clearly depicted and spread widely throughout society.
