Hai Phong Railway Station recognized as a tourist destination.

The People's Committee of Hai Phong City has issued Decision No. 1451/QD-UBND recognizing Hai Phong Railway Station as a tourist destination.

The decision states that Hai Phong Railway Station, located at 75 Luong Khanh Thien Street, Cau Dat Ward, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong City, and managed by the Vietnam Railway Corporation, is recognized as a tourist destination.

The People's Committee of Hai Phong City assigns the Vietnam Railways Corporation the responsibility of organizing, managing, exploiting, operating, maintaining the conditions, and developing the Hai Phong Railway Station tourist destination in accordance with the Tourism Law and other relevant legal regulations.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the Departments of Construction, Agriculture and Environment, Industry and Trade, Health, the City Police, and other relevant agencies to guide, inspect, and supervise the Vietnam Railway Corporation in organizing, managing, exploiting, and investing in the development of the Hai Phong Railway Station tourist destination, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with the law.

During its operation, if the Hai Phong Railway Station Tourist Destination no longer meets the prescribed conditions, the City People's Committee will consider revoking the decision recognizing it as a tourist destination.

Hai Phong Railway Station was built in the early 20th century on the Hai Phong - Hanoi - Lao Cai - Yunnan (China) railway line. The station officially opened for operation on June 16, 1902. It is not only a railway station serving the transportation industry but also preserves unique historical and architectural values; becoming a symbol and a famous destination attracting visitors to explore history and experience the railway in Hai Phong city.

Hai Phong Railway Station is closely associated with historical events of the resistance war and socio-economic development of the people of Hai Phong City and the Vietnamese railway industry; it has been classified as a "Historical Resistance War Relic" by the People's Committee of Hai Phong City according to Decision No. 177/QD-UB dated January 28, 2005.

According to assessments, Hai Phong Railway Station is a popular destination attracting visitors to explore its history and experience the railway system in Hai Phong city. Besides its unique architectural design, Hai Phong Railway Station also possesses significant tourism advantages.

Specifically, Hai Phong Railway Station is located right on Luong Khanh Thien Street, Ngo Quyen District, near major city thoroughfares. From the station, tourists can easily access tourist attractions within the city. In addition, the station is the terminal of the Hanoi – Hai Phong railway line, providing tourists from Hanoi and neighboring provinces with convenient and cost-effective transportation; an ideal choice for tourists who enjoy scenic views along the way or want a safe and comfortable journey.

The current number of passengers arriving at Hai Phong Station includes those traveling by train to Hai Phong Station as a check-in point, and then participating in various tourist activities: food tours; city tours; trips to Do Son beach, Hon Dau island, etc.

According to Decision No. 1769/QD-TTg dated October 19, 2021, of the Prime Minister approving the National Railway Network Planning for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, this decision outlines the development direction of the national railway network, including railway lines passing through the Hai Phong area, aiming to improve connectivity and promote socio-economic development of the city and surrounding areas.

Furthermore, according to the Hai Phong city planning for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, the city plans to build 4 national railway lines and 4 urban railway lines, including line number 2: connecting the Trang Cat urban area with the current Hai Phong station.

Currently, the station has a complete system of signage and explanations about tourist attractions, ensuring full and convenient access for visitors, including: station map signs, sightseeing areas, train ticket price lists, and kiosks providing information about Hai Phong Station. Visitors are allowed to tour from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily (including holidays) with two planned routes.

Route 1: Visitors enter through the station gate, explore the architecture in front of the station, the interior of the station complex, and visit the railway industry's artifact exhibition room in the central waiting area on the first floor. They then go to the second floor to watch a documentary film screening in a private room accommodating approximately 50 people; participate in experiential activities such as role-playing as station staff or station managers during the French colonial period. Next, visitors move to the large area behind the station to see the vintage train, functional buildings, antique locomotives, the railway tracks dating back to the French colonial era, and the wartime shelters. They experience the train service from Hai Phong station to Hai Phong port and vice versa; explore the station grounds, take photos with the scenic spots and flower gardens, and enjoy shopping, dining, and massage services. After the tour, visitors return to the parking area.

Route 2: Tourists travel to Hai Phong station from Hanoi, Hai Duong, and other provinces by passenger train on the Hanoi-Hai Phong railway line. Upon arrival at Hai Phong station, tourists can experience the following services: Visit the back of the station, see antique trains, vintage carriages, tracks dating back to the French colonial era, the war shelter area, antique locomotives, take photos with the miniature landscapes and flower gardens; experience the train service from Hai Phong station to Hai Phong port and vice versa. Next, tourists can visit the rooms inside the station building, the exhibition room on the first floor; go to the second floor to watch documentary films in a private room; participate in experiential activities such as role-playing as station staff or station managers during the French colonial period… Tourists can experience shopping, dining, relaxation, massage… at the functional rooms and food court in front of the station. Check in and take photos at the station square. After the tour, tourists go to the parking area to continue their journey to visit tourist attractions in Hai Phong City.
