Vinh Te Canal national project promoted on postage stamps

The Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Post Corporation have just issued a postage stamp set "Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the completion of Vinh Te Canal (1824-2024)".

This is a product of a stamp set introducing important national programs, works and projects. The stamp set includes 1 stamp designed by artist Nguyen Du (Vietnam Post Corporation) on a stamp size of 66 x 26 (mm).

On the stamp is the entire ancient map of Vinh Te canal with related landmarks and a portrait of the designer, the famous mandarin Thoai Ngoc Hau.

The author's photo is also solemnly placed in the frame. Vinh Te Canal is an irrigation achievement, a large project with many values in national defense, transportation, trade, irrigation, dug and completed during the Nguyen Dynasty - the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam.

It is worth mentioning that the great values of the canal system are still promoted to this day. The entire Vinh Te canal project is more than 11,000 truong (about 91km) long.

The canal starts from the west bank of Chau Doc River (An Giang province) connecting with Giang Thanh River, Ha Tien city ( Kien Giang province).

The stamp set was issued to introduce to the public an important work, with historical value, intelligence, and creativity of our ancestors. Thereby, contributing to arousing national pride, especially among the young generation, encouraging them to learn about history, take practical actions to contribute to the construction and development of their homeland and country.

Vinh Te Canal began construction in 1819 under the reign of King Gia Long and was completed in 1824 under the reign of King Minh Mang. The canal was dug by the famous mandarin Nguyen Van Thoai (also known as Thoai Ngoc Hau 1761-1829). He was a person who made great contributions to the process of expanding the territory during the Nguyen Dynasty.
