Not only conquering the domestic market, Ba Huong cu do candy - a 3-star OCOP product (Pho Chau town, Huong Son, Ha Tinh ) has been exported to the UK market.
Every day, Mrs. Huong's candy factory sells more than 5,000 pieces.
At the end of April, 50 boxes of cu do candies with a quantity of 24,000 pieces from Ba Huong cu do candy production facility (Pho Chau town, Huong Son) were exported to Europe. The products were packed in boxes according to export standards and transported to the UK market by Hai Nan International Company Limited ( Ho Chi Minh City).
This is a new step in the journey of market development and brand affirmation of Ba Huong candy establishment because export products have very strict requirements, from input materials to quality, design, especially food hygiene and safety.
Ms. Ho Thi Thuan - owner of the candy shop Mrs. Huong excitedly said: "Previously, our products were hand-carried to many countries by regular customers as gifts, but this is the first time they have been officially exported. After the first shipment, we received a positive signal when Hai Nan International Company Limited announced that they were preparing to export the next order with the same quantity."
Ba Huong candy facility exported the first shipment at the end of April 2023.
Sharing about connecting with partner companies to export products, Ms. Thuan said: “The facility's products followed Ha Tinh people to Ho Chi Minh City, became known to many people and through the introduction of acquaintances, Hai Nan International Company Limited staff came to check the production process, survey, evaluate quality and take samples for testing.
After that, the company asked us to adjust some points such as reducing the sweetness, adding peanuts and sesame, and after re-evaluation, the partner agreed to sign a contract to export the product to the UK."
Besides producing cu do candy, Ms. Thuan also opened a store to introduce and sell OCOP products of the province.
According to Ms. Thuan, the facility started operating in 1978 and she is the third generation in her family to take over the business. Mrs. Huong's cu do candy is made from peanuts, molasses, fresh ginger and rice paper. To preserve the traditional flavor of her hometown, the facility produces by hand, cooking the candy in a wood-fired oven, stirring the molasses by hand and selecting the input materials very carefully. The difference of Mrs. Huong's cu do candy is the bright molasses color, the candy is in a semicircular shape instead of the usual round shape.
With a long-standing production tradition, the facility's products are trusted and chosen by many people in the region, so they are very "in demand". In particular, since the end of 2020, Ba Huong's cu do candy products have been certified to meet 3-star OCOP standards, with many opportunities to participate in trade promotion programs inside and outside the province, thereby learning from experience and increasingly improving quality and packaging design, keeping up with market demand. Thanks to that, consumption has increased by about 30 - 40% compared to before.
Mrs. Huong's cu do candy has a brighter honey color than many other establishments.
Ms. Thuan said: “Currently, the facility consumes about 5,000 pieces per day. In addition to supplying the provincial market, Ms. Huong's cu do products are available at stores in many provinces and cities such as Da Nang, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi ... Not only exporting to the UK, currently another business has also surveyed and taken samples to evaluate the export of products to the Japanese market."
Due to high product consumption, Ba Huong candy production facility has also contributed to supporting the consumption of agricultural products for people in the province. On average, each day, the facility uses more than 100 kg of peanuts, 30 kg of ginger, more than 100 liters of molasses and about 5,000 rice paper. In addition, the facility also directly creates regular jobs for 12 workers with an income of 4 million VND/person/month.
OCOP 3 certification is a "passport" for Ba Huong candy to expand its market.
According to Mr. Phan Khuong Duy - specialist of the Office of New Rural Development Coordination of Huong Son district, there are currently 42 OCOP products in the area. To date, Ba Huong cu do candy is the first local product to be officially exported. The exported product has helped to increase the value and widely promote the brand of the facility's products.
This also shows that the agricultural products of the province and the district in particular still have a lot of potential and advantages, capable of meeting the requirements of domestic and international markets.
Ba Huong candy production facility currently employs 12 workers.
According to information from the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office, Ha Tinh currently has 237 products that meet OCOP standards and Ba Huong cu do is the first cu do candy product of the province to be officially exported.
To support OCOP entities in expanding their consumption markets and exporting more and more products, relevant units have accompanied enterprises, cooperatives, and production facilities in promoting and connecting trade with international markets. Currently, some OCOP products of the province have been officially exported such as Nguyen Lam sesame rice paper (Ky Anh district), Anh Thu spring rolls (Thach Ha), Mai Dung jellyfish (Thach Ha), Nam Chi spring rolls (Ha Tinh city)...
