The Phan Thiet military airport construction project has a total investment of VND 7,925 billion, with an implementation period of 2021-2025. The goal is to build a military airport with a runway, signal lights, navigation stations for both military and civilian use, and other facilities. These facilities have now been completed. Regarding the civilian component, the Provincial People's Committee has proposed converting the investment model from BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) to a business investment model as stipulated in the Investment Law, along with the approval of the list of shared facilities at Phan Thiet airport.
The joy is doubled as Lam Dong province has just approved the investment plan for the Phan Thiet Airport project, a civil aviation facility with a total capital of nearly 3,800 billion VND, expected to be completed within 24 months. The civil aviation component of Phan Thiet Airport is planned on an area of 74.6 hectares, designed to handle Category 4E civil aircraft, with a design capacity of approximately 2 million passengers per year by 2030. Phan Thiet Airport is a dual-use project, planned since 2013 with a total area of over 543 hectares and a design capacity of 2 million passengers/year. Construction began in January 2015. According to the approved plan, the project includes two components: a military airport and a civil airport.
When Phan Thiet Airport is completed and put into operation, it will help Lam Dong province develop tourism in the Lam Dong coastal region, especially the Mui Ne National Tourist Area, to attract domestic and international tourists. At the same time, it will connect the regional economy , attract large-scale investment projects in real estate, resort services, and commerce, creating jobs for Lam Dong province. Upon completion, Phan Thiet Airport will also play a strategic role in the South Central air transport network, contributing to promoting regional connectivity and strengthening economic connections with neighboring provinces and internationally. With an expected completion time of 24 months, the project is expected to become a symbol of dynamism, sustainable development, and modernization of air transport infrastructure in Vietnam. This is one of the important efforts of the locality to upgrade air transport capacity, meeting the increasing travel needs of residents, tourists, and investors. This is also a positive signal for investors and businesses, affirming Lam Dong province's determination to enhance competitiveness and create momentum for socio-economic growth.
The Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has instructed relevant departments, agencies, and localities to guide and support investors in carrying out legal procedures, ensuring the project is implemented on schedule, in accordance with the plan, and as committed. Previously, land clearance work faced many obstacles; therefore, the Provincial People's Committee has requested localities to accelerate the progress of compensation and land clearance, and at the same time, requested the Provincial Transport Project Management Board to coordinate with localities, the Air Defense - Air Force Command, and relevant departments and agencies to vigorously carry out compensation and land clearance for flight guidance stations, air defense positions, and connecting roads, promptly resolving difficulties and obstacles during implementation.
Now that the land is "cleared," it is hoped that the project, expected to be completed within 24 months from the date of the investment approval decision, will be a boost for tourism development in Lam Dong, shortening travel time from many hours to just minutes, helping Mui Ne connect directly with the rest of the country and internationally, attracting investment, promoting strong socio-economic development of the locality, and transforming it into an attractive and convenient destination.
