Ousmane Dembele faces the risk of missing the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to Le Parisien , Dembele left the French national team's training camp on June 6th and is almost certain to miss all three of PSG's group stage matches at the tournament held in the US. He will miss the opening match against Atletico Madrid on June 15th, followed by the matches against Botafogo and Seattle Sounders. He is expected to return to action in early July.

This is a significant blow for coach Luis Enrique, who had hoped Dembele would be a key player for PSG in their ambitions to win the new FIFA-organized tournament. Losing the player who was recently voted "Best Player in the Champions League" will undoubtedly have a major impact on the attacking strength of the Parisian club.

In France, the decision to field Dembele immediately after the demanding Champions League campaign also sparked controversy. He had participated in numerous celebrations with PSG in Paris, leading to a noticeable decline in his physical and mental condition. Continuing to play in a demanding environment like the Nations League made the former Barca star's risk of injury a real possibility.

However, according to Le Parisien , PSG will not enter the transfer market to replace Dembele, even though FIFA has opened a "special transfer window" for the FIFA Club World Cup until June 10th. Coach Luis Enrique still places his trust in the options already available in the squad. The good news is that Barcola – who also withdrew from the French national team due to a knee injury – is likely to be fit for the opening match.

In France, the decision to field Dembele immediately after a demanding Champions League campaign also sparked controversy.

Besides Dembele and Barcola, the French team also suffered a blow to their defense when Clement Lenglet, the Atletico Madrid center-back, withdrew after suffering a hip injury. He sustained the injury during the match against Spain, and an MRI confirmed its severity. Lenglet will not play in the Nations League match against Germany and has been sent back to his club for treatment.

For PSG, their journey at the FIFA Club World Cup – already a major challenge – is now even more difficult with the absence of one of their key players.

Dembele could return in early July, but by then it might be too late. If PSG fail to get past the group stage, his dream of winning the World Cup will be shattered again – and with it, his hopes of getting closer to the coveted Ballon d'Or.
