Set after the An Lushan Rebellion, the film follows the story of the Tang Dynasty general Gao Shi, who chooses to tell the audience about this turbulent era. However, his journey also includes the moon and wine as he recounts his enduring friendship with the poet Li Bai.

The portrait of "poet immortal" Li Bai, as shown in the previously released trailer, is both poetic and austere. The trailer opens with Li Bai appearing with a pensive expression; subsequent scenes featuring him are beautiful, depicting the moon, wine, and picturesque landscapes. In contrast to the scenes with Li Bai in the trailer, the scenes of Gao Shi are mostly battle scenes and military uprisings.

Chang'an San Wan Li is the first project in Light Chaser Animation Studios' "New Culture" series, based on historical figures and events; the story of the poet Li Bai was chosen to kick off the franchise. Director Zou Jing also confirmed that adapting "real people and real events" for the big screen is the core of the upcoming "New Culture" franchise.
And why was Li Bai chosen for the film instead of another poet? Director Zou Jing further shared, "Because the Tang Dynasty was a golden age in ancient Chinese culture, and even after that, Li Bai's poetry has deeply touched the hearts of many people in this country, and that's simply why we chose him." The film, which is 2 hours and 48 minutes long, will be released to mainland audiences this Saturday, July 8th.
