The Con Dao Special Zone Military-Civilian Medical Center has just recorded its fourth case of acute ischemic stroke successfully treated with intravenous thrombolytic therapy.

The patient is Mr. TNT (born in 1982, residing in Phuoc Hai commune). He was admitted to the hospital at 2:30 PM on April 24, 2026, in a drowsy state, with difficulty speaking and weakness in his arms and legs.

According to family members, at around 1 PM on the same day, the patient suddenly became drowsy, unresponsive, had difficulty speaking, experienced weakness in both arms and legs, was unable to walk independently, and also suffered from headache, dizziness, and nausea. The patient had a history of hypertension and was undergoing treatment.

Upon admission, the Con Dao Special Zone Military-Civilian Medical Center activated the stroke emergency procedure. Dr. Huynh Quoc Huy, a specialist in Cerebrovascular Pathology at People's Hospital 115, who was on rotation in Con Dao, directly examined the patient.

Based on initial assessment, doctors determined this was a case of acute stroke, still within the "golden hour" for treatment. The patient was quickly given a CT scan of the brain to determine if there was any brain hemorrhage.

After clinical and imaging evaluation, the doctors unanimously diagnosed the patient with pontine infarction at the second hour on a background of hypertension, and decided to use intravenous thrombolytic therapy to restore cerebral blood flow.

Following treatment, the patient's condition improved rapidly. By the next morning, the patient was alert, no longer had weakness in the limbs, only slight blurring of the nasolabial folds, and some difficulty speaking. Examination after 24 hours revealed no hemorrhagic complications. The patient continued prophylactic treatment to prevent recurrent stroke with antiplatelet medication.

After 3 days of treatment, the patient's condition stabilized and they were discharged from the hospital.

This case further demonstrates the effectiveness of the specialist doctor rotation program to support medical care in Con Dao, helping island residents access modern stroke treatment techniques locally and reducing the risk of delays due to urgent transfers to hospitals on the mainland.
