According to a resolution of the Hue City People's Council, the entrance fee to Hai Van Pass is 70,000 VND per person, applied uniformly to both Vietnamese and international visitors.
Previously, on September 10, 2024, the People's Committee of Hue City and the People's Committee of Da Nang City held a meeting to discuss the coordination of management, preservation, and promotion of the value of Hai Van Pass historical site, agreeing on a fee framework of 50,000 - 70,000 VND/person/visit.
The purpose of collecting fees is to offset the costs of preserving, restoring, and managing the historical site, while ensuring transparency, accountability, and compliance with regulations.
All revenue from entrance tickets will be allocated to the Hue Imperial Citadel Conservation Center to support the maintenance, restoration, and operation of the monuments, with at least 20% of the revenue dedicated to regular maintenance.
The resolution also stipulates cases eligible for exemption or reduction of entrance fees. Specifically, free entry applies to children under 13 years old, students participating in extracurricular activities, severely disabled individuals, research groups, journalists, and during major holidays throughout the year. Residents of Hue City and Da Nang City, along with many other policy beneficiaries, receive a 50% discount on tickets.

This resolution is valid until the end of 2028. From 2029, the Da Nang City People's Council will issue a new resolution to continue managing the project on a rotating basis between the two localities.
The Hai Van Pass historical site is a military fortress located at the summit of the Hai Van Pass, comprising numerous structures including a system of ramparts, warehouses, and cannon fortifications.
During the Nguyen Dynasty, Hai Van Pass was a crucial gateway, serving as the southern entrance to the capital city of Hue. Therefore, the Nguyen Dynasty concentrated a large force and weapons at Hai Van Pass to defend it.
In 2017, Hai Van Pass was classified as a national historical site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and is managed by Hue City and Da Nang City. At the end of 2021, this site underwent preservation, restoration, and value enhancement with a budget of 42 billion VND from the two localities' budgets.
