On March 19, Hue Central Hospital announced that it had just saved the life of a child with severe arrhythmia and critical cardiogenic shock complications thanks to ECMO technology.
Accordingly, patient NNAN (7 years old, from Mo Duc, Quang Ngai ) was hospitalized in a state of fatigue and slow heart rate.
Just a few hours later, the baby suddenly fell into critical condition: cold hands and feet, low blood pressure, and severely weakened heart.
Doctors quickly consulted and decided to perform ECMO - a technique to immediately replace heart function, saving the critically ill child from the hands of death.
After 5 days, the baby's heart gradually recovered but still had a serious arrhythmia.
To ensure stable heart function, doctors continue to place a permanent pacemaker in the child.
After more than 2 weeks of intensive treatment, the patient can walk normally, health indicators are stable and is expected to be discharged tomorrow.
Family and doctors burst into joy when the baby made a miraculous recovery.
Acute myocarditis is a dangerous disease with a very high mortality rate. Before ECMO technology, almost 100% of patients who fell into cardiogenic shock did not survive.
Professor Pham Nhu Hiep, director of Hue Central Hospital, said that ECMO technique has been deployed by the hospital since 2009, becoming a lifesaver for many critically ill patients, especially children.
"We are constantly investing in modern equipment and training specialized human resources to improve the quality of treatment, bringing life opportunities to many critically ill children," Mr. Hiep emphasized.
