On the morning of January 11, leaders of Hoang Sa District People's Committee visited and presented Tet gifts to witnesses who lived, worked and protected Hoang Sa archipelago.
Chairman of Hoang Sa District People's Committee Vo Ngoc Dong and leaders of Hoang Sa Exhibition House also came to burn incense to pay tribute to the deceased witnesses.
January 19th this year marks the 50th anniversary of China's unilateral use of force to seize the Hoang Sa archipelago (January 19th, 1974) from the Republic of Vietnam soldiers who were on a mission to protect and survey the Hoang Sa archipelago under Vietnam's sovereignty . Keeping his promise during his visit a year ago, Mr. Dong presented the witnesses with a 68-page Hoang Sa document introducing the Hoang Sa archipelago and portraits, biographies, and memoirs of those who had set foot there.
"Through this document, the People's Committee of Hoang Sa district hopes that the witness will introduce to their children and grandchildren about the Hoang Sa archipelago, where they lived, worked and had many memories, so that the younger generation will know and remember that Hoang Sa is an archipelago under Vietnam's sovereignty," Mr. Dong said when presenting the book to witness Pham So, 90 years old.
Mr. So's image is printed solemnly in the document. 67 years ago, he was a construction worker who went to Hoang Sa to repair a fresh water tank for the Meteorological Center.
