Da Nang strives for integration and development

Speaking at the Conference, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Ho Ky Minh emphasized that the issuance of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025 by the Politburo on "international integration in the new situation" has affirmed that international integration is one of the strategic driving forces for national development. The city identified this as a guideline to continue improving the quality and effectiveness of integration in the coming time with the spirit of being proactive, comprehensive, and extensive; taking businesses and people as the center, the subject and the beneficiary; harmoniously combining promoting internal resources and taking advantage of external resources, between foreign affairs - integration with economic, cultural and social development, ensuring national defense and security.

In addition, the merger of the old Quang Nam province and the old Da Nang city into Da Nang city after 28 years of separation is not only an administrative event, but also a historic turning point in restructuring the development space of the locality and the Central Highlands region. The city has the conditions to form a multi-center, multi-functional, multi-ecological urban area; expand its scale, increase development space, promote connectivity, reduce transaction costs and maximize potential. This is also an opportunity to build a flexible, modern governance model, suitable for trends and deeply integrate into the national and international value chain. Entering the 2025 - 2030 period, along with the general orientation, Da Nang identified 3 strategic breakthroughs clearly stated in the Political Report presented to the 1st Congress of the City Party Executive Committee. In particular, breakthroughs of international integration nature are particularly emphasized, including: Making the most of specific mechanisms and policies to attract foreign investment, encourage public-private cooperation and expand regional and international linkages; promoting science, technology, innovation, digital transformation associated with the development of high-quality human resources; considering international cooperation as an important channel to receive knowledge, technology, and advanced management experience, thereby enhancing the city's competitiveness.

These orientations will help Da Nang not only integrate more deeply into the regional and global economy, but also become an attractive destination for investors, organizations and international friends.

At the conference, speakers and leading experts exchanged and contributed ideas from many perspectives to improve the effectiveness of the city's international integration and cooperation in the coming time.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang, said that in the period of 2025 - 2030, Da Nang identified foreign affairs and international integration as important tasks to realize development goals. The city set out 5 key goals including: affirming the role of the economic - political - cultural center of the Central region towards regional stature; promoting economic diplomacy, forming an international financial center and free trade zone; promoting cultural values and enhancing the brand of Quang Da; building a high-quality workforce; ensuring security, safety and building the image of a livable international city.

Da Nang also identified five key groups of tasks, including: strengthening international research and forecasting; exploiting new growth drivers; promoting regional and international border gate connectivity; mobilizing social resources; strengthening a secure and friendly environment, taking people as "integration ambassadors".

In the period of 2021 - 2025, despite facing many difficulties, the city's international integration and cooperation work has achieved many important results, contributing to enhancing the position of Da Nang in the region and internationally. The city has expanded foreign relations with 60 localities in 24 countries; signed hundreds of cooperation agreements; hosted major international events. The locality has proactively and flexibly implemented foreign affairs activities in many fields; expanded friendly relations and cooperation with traditional partners and new friends; enhanced the promotion of the image of Da Nang as a safe, friendly destination with rich potential for cooperation. The city has also implemented many defense - security cooperation activities, contributing to maintaining sovereignty, a peaceful and stable environment. As a result, many high-quality FDI projects have been attracted, new development models such as International Financial Center, Free Trade Zone, cooperation programs on education, science - technology, health, environment, tourism have been expanded, creating an important foundation for sustainable development. These results have contributed significantly to enhancing the prestige and position of Da Nang; at the same time, expanding the development space for the city in the future.
