To mark the Buddha's birthday - Buddhist calendar 2570, the Central Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Association presents the Buddhist art exhibition "Early Summer Lotus IX". The program is organized by the Mac Huong Buddhist Artists Group in collaboration with artists from the UNESCO Center in Hanoi .
Now in its ninth year, the exhibition has become a familiar art gathering place every Buddha's Birthday season, but this year it bears a special mark as it commemorates the 2650th anniversary of the Buddha's birth. More than just an art exhibition, "Early Summer Lotus IX" opens up a space for the intersection of art and Buddhist philosophy, where beauty is supported by spiritual depth and mindfulness.

Lacquer painting "Summer Lotus" by artist Dang Phuong Viet
The exhibition brings together 55 works by 37 artists, in a variety of materials and styles: from lacquer, oil paint, silk, watercolor to acrylic, sculpture…; from traditional realism to abstract, simultaneity and contemporary expression. Each work is like a lotus flower with its own unique nuances, reflecting the inner journey and sensibilities of the artist.
Viewers will encounter the pure beauty in the watercolor painting "Nine Dragons Bathing Buddha" by Venerable Thich Tu Quang; the mystical depth in the oil painting "Six Taras" by artist Nguyen Thi Nhan (Dharma name Phap Lac); or the strong, expansive spirit in the abstract lacquer painting "Heavenly Horse of Huong Son" by artist Nguyen Duc Quang (Dharma name Quang Thien).
In addition, the vibrant colors in "Universal Enlightenment" by artist Phan Thi Thanh Mai (Dharma name Dieu Hoa), "One Thought of Bodhi" by artist Tran Luu My (Dharma name Phuc Thien), or the profound contemplation in "Lotus Heart" by author Luong Duy, "Great Enlightenment" by artist Hue Khanh Hanh, "Wonderful Dharma" by artist Nguyen Tran Hoang (Dharma name Tam Dao), or the sculpture "Lotus Pond" by author Luong Duc Hung, all contribute to a rich visual and spiritually evocative highlight.

Lacquer painting "Moc Mien Yen Giang" by artist Phung Hoa Mien
According to Venerable Thich Minh Hien, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Culture Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Association, when painting lotuses, Buddhist artists are not only recreating the beauty of a flower but also reflecting on their own consciousness.
"Through the language of painting, artists convey their reverence, gratitude, and aspiration for goodness. Each artwork is a lotus flower of the heart, both close to life and carrying the spirit of spreading compassion and wisdom," shared Venerable Thich Minh Hien.
The exhibition "Early Summer Lotus IX" will open at 5:00 PM on May 24, 2026 at Art Space, 42 Yet Kieu Street, Hanoi.
