Phuc Trach pomelo, a local specialty, is now available in the city.

At this time of year, throughout the streets and markets of Ha Tinh City, vendors have begun selling Phuc Trach pomelos. As it's the first pomelo of the season, it's highly sought after by consumers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's Phuc Trach pomelo stall, run by a pomelo vendor at Vuon Uom Market (Ha Tinh City), is always bustling with customers.

These days, along many streets in Ha Tinh City, people can easily spot fruit stalls selling beautiful, ripe, golden-yellow Phuc Trach pomelos.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) - a pomelo vendor at Vuon Uom market (Ha Tinh city) said: "From dawn, I go to Phuc Trach market to get goods and hire a truck to transport them to Ha Tinh city, with each trip carrying about 400-500 pomelos. I mainly buy pomelos from orchards in Huong Trach and Huong Do communes. Every day, I sell nearly 300 pomelos retail, and the rest I deliver to wholesale customers. Currently, pomelos are sold at 20,000-25,000 VND/fruit depending on the type."

According to Ms. Huong, to prepare for the business season, traders started going to the orchards a month in advance to select each tree and place orders. This year, the early-season Phuc Trach pomelos are very beautiful and of higher quality than in previous years. Although it's only the beginning of the season, demand is quite high. Many traders have already received large orders to meet the needs for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

It is expected that the demand for Phuc Trach pomelos will increase significantly as the full moon of the seventh lunar month approaches.

According to observations, the buying and selling of Phuc Trach pomelos is quite bustling, from local markets to fixed fruit shops on the streets of Ha Tinh City.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Minh, a small trader at Binh Huong Market (Ha Tinh City), said: “Because it's a famous specialty, during pomelo season, customers order large quantities to send to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi . Every day I pack more than 10 bags (500 fruits). The round, plump, golden pomelos are neatly arranged in sacks and carefully tied with string before being delivered to other localities. Phuc Trach pomelos are sold out in one morning at the market. In general, prices and demand at this time are basically stable like last year.”

Mr. Nguyen Bao Minh, a small business owner at Binh Huong Market (Ha Tinh City), is busy packing orders.

According to local traders, the peak season for Phuc Trach pomelo harvesting will begin in about a week. Although it's only the beginning of the season, Phuc Trach pomelos are already beautiful and of high quality, weighing between 1 and 1.8 kg per fruit. Prices are divided into three categories: small (15,000-18,000 VND/fruit), medium (20,000 VND/fruit), and large (30,000-45,000 VND/fruit). Pomelos grown conventionally have a moderate price, while those grown according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards command higher prices, possibly 50,000-60,000 VND/fruit.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (Bac Ha ward, Ha Tinh city) enthusiastically said: “My family really enjoys eating Phuc Trach pomelos. This year, the fruit is juicy, the segments are crispy, and the taste is pure, sweet, and rich. Therefore, as soon as the pomelos were available on the market, I chose to buy some to store and eat gradually.”

"Not only delicious, Phuc Trach pomelos are also easy to preserve. The fruit has a thick, hard peel, making it easy to transport over long distances. The pomelos stay fresh and delicious for a long time without the need for any preservatives. The peel may wither, but the quality of each segment inside remains undiminished," added Ms. Le Thi Anh (Nguyen Du Ward).

To meet the growing market demand, farmers in the growing areas of Huong Khe district are also accelerating the harvesting process.

Mr. Tran Xuan Loat (Tan Phu village, Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) harvests pomelos to sell to traders.

Mr. Tran Xuan Loat (Tan Phu village, Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) shared: "My family's pomelo orchard covers 1 hectare with over 700 trees, belonging to the CHOA Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Phu village, Huong Trach commune). This year, with over 300 trees bearing fruit, we expect to harvest more than 16,000-17,000 fruits. My pomelo trees have been planted for many years, so they produce delicious fruit, each weighing 1-1.3 kg. Currently, I harvest 1,000-2,000 fruits per batch. Besides supplying wholesale customers, I also advertise on social media and receive large orders from Hanoi at prices ranging from 45,000 to 50,000 VND per fruit."

The entire Huong Khe district has 2,714 hectares of land planted with pomelo trees.

It is known that Huong Khe district has 19 communes growing pomelos with a total area of ​​2,714 hectares, of which 1,920 hectares are in the fruiting stage with a total production of over 23,000 tons; the average yield is over 12 tons/ha. The district has 122 Phuc Trach pomelo production cooperatives with more than 730 hectares meeting VietGAP standards, and 1 cooperative has been granted GlobalGAP certification.

To support local people in consuming the key local product, Huong Khe district has developed a plan to organize promotional activities both within and outside the district; organize online conferences to connect pomelo consumption in Huong Khe district; connect with BigC supermarket in Hanoi to put the product on the shelves; maintain pomelo sales points throughout the province, and maintain the efficiency of the wholesale market in Huong Khe district.
