For the 2026 World Cup finals, the International Football Federation (FIFA) released an album containing six official songs: “Lighter” by Jelly Roll and Carin Leon; “Por Ella” by singer Belinda and the Los Angeles band Azules; “Echo” by Daddy Yankee and Shenseea; “Illuminate” by Jessie Reyez and Elyanna; “Dai Dai” by Shakira and Burna Boy; and “Goals” by Lisa, Anitta, and Rema. The music video for "Dai Dai" opens with images of stars like Mbappe, Harry Kane, Luis Dias, Vinicius, Kubo, Haaland, and Messi chanting "Shakira! We're ready!" In the new music video, Shakira appears alongside the Angel de la Independencia monument—a famous symbol of Mexico—then joins in vibrant dances amidst a desert landscape with African children. The MV also introduces Ghetto Kids Uganda, a non- governmental organization that supports orphans and disadvantaged children through music, dance, and performing arts.
"Dai Dai" also marks Shakira's return to the World Cup music video scene, following the resounding success of "Waka Waka" at the 2010 World Cup and "La La La" at the 2014 World Cup. Beyond its football-themed atmosphere, "Dai Dai" is considered a multicultural anthem. The title of the song encourages and urges the players and teams participating in the 2026 World Cup to strive for the top. The lyrics of "Dai Dai" are expressed in five languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Japanese, symbolizing the global spirit of connection of the World Cup. In addition to its role as a motivational song, "Dai Dai" also represents the 2026 World Cup Global Education Fund, aiming to support disadvantaged children around the world in accessing education and healthy sports.
Sharing his thoughts on the project, singer Burna Boy said: “Music and football both have the ability to erase all boundaries and bring people closer together. Being a part of such an iconic moment is a great honor in my career.”
The hype surrounding "Dai Dai" was evident even before its release, following Shakira's free concert at Copacabana Beach in Brazil, which attracted a record-breaking audience of approximately 2 million people. This was further fueled by a short promotional video for the music video, filmed at the legendary Maracana Stadium. In the video, Shakira appears captivating alongside dancers to the vibrant melody and inspiring lyrics: "This is your home. The setbacks of the past only make you stronger."
In an interview with The Times on the occasion of the release of "Dai Dai," Shakira shared that music is becoming a form of therapy for her after the tumultuous breakup with football star Pique in 2022. Over the past year, Shakira has been extremely active in the arts, and "Dai Dai" is seen as a promising highlight, helping the Colombian singer further solidify her position as the "queen of World Cup songs."
