According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba, the department was established with the aim of promoting in-depth, interdisciplinary research on the ideology, career and legacy of President Ho Chi Minh . The department also aims to strengthen cooperation with universities and research centers at home and abroad, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam and strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long emphasized the special significance of May 19 - the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, which is also the day Cuban national hero José Martí sacrificed his life for national independence. The Ambassador affirmed that both leaders are typical symbols of the aspirations for freedom, peace and justice of independence-loving peoples around the world .
According to Ambassador Le Quang Long, Ho Chi Minh's ideology is not only a compass for the Vietnamese revolution but also a great source of inspiration for national liberation movements around the world. The establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Research Department at the University of Havana is a practical step, contributing to enhancing understanding and connection between the people of the two countries, especially the young generation. The Ambassador expressed his belief that the department will become a prestigious research andeducation center on Vietnam in Cuba, Latin America and internationally.
According to the plan, the department will carry out diverse activities such as seminars, talks, exhibitions, book introductions and in-depth research programs. At the same time, the department will build a cooperative network with universities and research organizations in and outside Cuba, with a special focus on connecting with universities in Vietnam.
Offering flowers at Ho Chi Minh Park in La HabanaOn the same day, May 19, the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba held a flower offering ceremony at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the Park named after him in the capital city of Havana. Attending the ceremony were Ambassador Le Quang Long, Embassy staff, Vietnamese students, representatives of the Cuba - Vietnam Friendship Association and the local community. According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba, speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Le Quang Long emphasized: "President Ho Chi Minh is not only the father of the Vietnamese people, but also a symbol of the global national liberation movement. His ideology will forever be the torch that lights the way for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland." The Ambassador also affirmed the profound similarities between President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban National Hero José Martí - two great thinkers who devoted their whole lives to the ideals of independence and freedom. According to the Ambassador, Ho Chi Minh Park in Havana is not only a symbol of Vietnam - Cuba friendship, but also a bridge for the young generations of the two countries to continue to cultivate a relationship that is "forever green, forever sustainable". Towards the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam - Cuba diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), the Ambassador called for promoting activities to spread Ho Chi Minh's ideology, especially among young people, as a practical way to continue and develop the traditional solidarity between the two peoples. |
