On May 10th, the first Congress of Representatives of Ethnic Minorities in Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) officially opened.
Attending the Congress were: Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Director and Head of the Standing Office for the Southern Region of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization; Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Head of the Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Huynh Van Hong Ngoc, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Hoang Tung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Duc City; and 150 exemplary individuals representing nearly 9,500 ethnic minority people throughout Thu Duc City.
Since 2019, the District Party Committees (District 2, District 9, and Thu Duc District), now Thu Duc City, have been disseminating the Party's viewpoint on implementing ethnic minority policies; focusing on leading and directing Party committees and governments at all levels on ethnic affairs; and incorporating ethnic affairs into the District Party Congress Resolutions to guide the building of a strong grassroots political system. This has helped maintain national unity among ethnic groups and ensure political and social stability in Thu Duc City.
Thu Duc City currently has 29 ethnic minority groups living there, comprising 4,082 households/9,418 people, accounting for 0.8% of the city's total population. Over the years, ethnic minority communities have been delighted by the attention of the Party and local government, which has mobilized all resources to care for those in difficult circumstances; visited and given gifts during ethnic minority holidays and festivals; and created favorable conditions for ethnic minority communities in production, business, and economic development, thus stabilizing their lives.
On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Ho Chi Minh City Ethnic Affairs Committee, and the Thu Duc City People's Committee awarded commendations to outstanding individuals, and the Congress also approved the list of delegates to attend the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minorities Representatives of Ho Chi Minh City.
Earlier that morning, at the Ho Chi Minh City National Historical and Cultural Park, the leaders of Thu Duc City and the delegation attending the Congress participated in a ceremony to offer incense and flowers in commemoration of the Hung Kings; they also participated in a tree planting ceremony at the Gift Garden.
In addition, the discussion program between the leaders of Thu Duc City and delegates attending the Congress on the topic: "Ethnic minority people in Thu Duc City contribute ideas to effectively implement Resolution No. 98/2023/QH15 of the National Assembly on piloting some specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City" received many heartfelt contributions.
