The Nho Que 1 hydroelectric reservoir was formed after the Nho Que 1 hydroelectric power plant (Meo Vac) was completed and began impounding water in 2017. The project harnesses water from the Nho Que River – a river originating in the Nghiem Son mountain range (Yunnan province, China), crossing the Vietnamese border into Lung Cu commune, Dong Van district, then flowing downstream through Meo Vac commune before emptying into Cao Bang province.

To explore Nho Que 1 Hydroelectric Lake, visitors will travel by boat. Especially if exploring Nho Que Lake at dawn, visitors will feel as if they have entered a fairyland, with mist and clouds drifting lazily over the lake's surface and the mountain slopes. As the sun rises, the brilliant golden sunlight pierces through the mountain ranges, illuminating the lake's surface and transforming Nho Que into a giant silver river.

One unmissable highlight when tourists explore Nho Que 1 Hydroelectric Lake is Tu San Gorge - a place likened to a "geological wonder," "the most magnificent viewpoint," and known as the deepest gorge in Southeast Asia with two sheer cliffs hundreds of meters high.

Ms. Le Thu Ha, a tourist from Da Nang, shared: “I have traveled to many places, but I have never seen anywhere as beautiful and majestic as Nho Que Lake. The feeling of quietly drifting through Tu San Gorge, amidst towering rock formations, with only the sound of waves and wind, I clearly felt a sense of tranquility in my soul, as if all the worries of city life had been washed away.”

Mr. Nguyen Nam Phuong, Director of Tu San Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative - the unit operating tourist transport services on Nho Que Lake - said: “We currently have more than 50 tourist boats serving visitors with complete safety equipment. Each trip lasts 60 to 80 minutes, taking tourists through Tu San Gorge and other scenic locations. In addition, we also provide tour guide services, traditional costumes, and highland cuisine to enrich the experience for guests.”

According to Hoang Van Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Meo Vac commune, Nho Que 1 Hydropower Reservoir is a key tourist destination in the locality. The commune continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to review and improve connecting infrastructure; at the same time, it strengthens inspection of passenger transport activities to ensure absolute safety for tourists.
