According to the People's Procuracy of Dak Lak province, in the first seven months of this year, authorities in the province discovered and handled six cases with signs of criminal activity related to the production and sale of counterfeit coffee powder. Of these, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Dak Lak Provincial Police has initiated investigations into six cases involving seven defendants for the crime of producing counterfeit food products. The court has tried two cases with three defendants. The total value of the seized counterfeit goods is over 3.5 billion VND.

Several cases of counterfeit ground coffee production have been reported, such as the one that occurred in Hoa Khanh commune, Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak province). There, the Economic Police Department of Dak Lak Provincial Police inspected, discovered, and seized ground coffee products bearing the brands Lozio coffee and Viet Hoang coffee, produced by Doan Thi Minh Hue (46 years old), the business owner. The packaging of these products claimed a minimum caffeine content of 1%, with ingredients including Arabica, Robusta, Moka, and Catimor coffee. However, testing determined that the caffeine content in these coffee products only ranged from 0.08% to 0.23% (70% lower than the declared amount and Vietnamese standards), making them counterfeit according to the law.

In July, the Economic Police Department of Dak Lak Provincial Police discovered a vehicle with a Quang Ngai license plate transporting over 600 kg of powdered coffee without invoices or documents proving its legal origin for sale in the province. The transporters confessed that the powdered coffee was produced at a branch of Tan Vinh Ky Co., Ltd. (Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) and then transported for sale in Dak Lak, Phu Yen , Quang Ngai, and Binh Dinh provinces.

During a search of the production facility, investigators discovered 12,830 packages of powdered coffee under various brand names. The packaging listed the product as containing various types of coffee and a caffeine content of 1% to 2%. However, the actual caffeine content in the product was only 0.0021% to 0.11%, 70% lower than the registered caffeine content on the packaging. The suspects confessed that these powdered coffee products were manufactured using a formula with a ratio of 70% soybeans, 10% corn, and 20% coffee; some types contained no coffee at all, but added industrial butter, flavorings, and colorings.

The Investigation Police Department of Dak Lak province has initiated a criminal case, charged the suspects, and issued a temporary detention order against the defendants for the crime of producing and trading counterfeit food products in this case.
