Ensure enough goods to serve the people

Typhoon No. 3 has passed, however, its impact remains significant. Along with addressing the aftermath of the storm, ensuring an adequate supply of goods, maintaining stable supply, and preventing shortages, scarcity, or sudden price increases, especially for food, is being actively implemented by relevant agencies, units, and localities in the province. The supply of goods and essential items for the people remains abundant and basically meets their needs.

On September 13th, the Prime Minister signed and issued Official Dispatch No. 95/CĐ-TTg on strengthening the supply of essential goods to serve the people in localities affected by Typhoon No. 3. The dispatch clearly states: It is necessary to ensure the supply of food and essential necessities for the people, while strengthening supervision, inspection, and control of the market, strictly handling violations, and resolutely preventing hoarding and unreasonable price increases, especially for medicines, textbooks, school supplies, food, essential necessities for consumption, supplies, biological products, plant and animal breeds… for students, people, and businesses after the typhoon.

To ensure an adequate supply of essential goods for the people, the Department of Industry and Trade has assigned specialized departments to monitor and inspect supermarkets and markets; and gather information from localities regarding the situation of goods and prices. To date, the supply of goods at supermarkets and markets throughout the province, especially in areas heavily affected by the storm such as Ha Long City, Quang Yen Town, and Cam Pha City, remains sufficient to meet the needs of the people.

Observations at major shopping malls and supermarkets, such as Winmart Ha Long, GO! Ha Long, MM Mega Market, and Lan Chi Supermarket in Quang Yen, show that although these establishments were also affected by the storm, the supply of goods remained normal to serve the people thanks to prior preparations. To support the people, supermarkets have implemented preferential policies, offering discounts and promotions on essential necessities after the storm. For example, Winmart Ha Long is offering price stabilization promotions with discounts of 15-20% on essential items such as rice, bottled water, vegetables, meat, and cooking oil. Prices of goods displayed on shelves have also been increased by 20-50% compared to pre-storm prices to encourage people to buy and choose.

Prices of vegetables and root crops at the market remain higher than before the storm.

Meanwhile, at the markets, after Typhoon No. 3 passed, many vendors cleaned up and started selling goods early from September 9th. Many markets had a wide variety of goods on display. According to observations at Ha Long Market I and Ha Long Market II (Ha Long City) on September 15th, goods, including vegetables and food items, were abundant. The prices of some vegetables and tubers had cooled down compared to the period from September 9th to 12th. However, vegetable prices still increased by 15,000-20,000 VND depending on the type compared to the period before the typhoon; fresh seafood prices remained basically unchanged, with a slight increase of about 20,000 VND/kg depending on the type; pork prices remained stable, without any increase. In addition, items for the Mid-Autumn Festival, such as toys, decorations, and mooncakes, were brought back to the market by businesses after the typhoon. Many types of toys and mooncakes have had their prices reduced by 5-10% to stimulate shopping and meet consumer demand.

Prices of fresh seafood in the province have remained largely unchanged, with a slight increase of about 20,000 VND/kg depending on the type.

Ms. Dinh Tuyet Nhung (Cao Thang Ward, Ha Long City) said: "During and after Typhoon No. 3, I found that food supplies were well-maintained. Although some essential items, especially vegetables, are still more expensive than before the typhoon, the price increase at this time is acceptable because the supply of vegetables was severely affected by the storm. Currently, I see that essential goods are abundant and diverse, meeting the needs of the people."

Along with essential goods, the supply of gasoline and diesel fuel in the province is currently ensured for the people and businesses. According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the total gasoline and diesel fuel reserves in the province are currently around 167,000 . Traders have planned to import and stockpile fuel for the remaining months of the year, so there is plenty to meet the needs of people and businesses in the province.

Mooncakes are sold on many streets, in supermarkets, and in shops.

To ensure the supply of goods and prevent supply chain disruptions and hoarding, the Department of Industry and Trade continues to strengthen market management and supervision, especially for food, fuel, and essential goods. It closely monitors market developments, prices, and supply and demand for essential goods serving consumption, production, and business in the area to proactively implement practical, timely, and effective solutions within its authority. Simultaneously, it strengthens coordination with functional forces and localities to supervise, inspect, and control the market, strictly handling violations and resolutely preventing hoarding and unreasonable price increases, especially for medicines, textbooks, school supplies, food, essential necessities for consumption, and supplies, biological products, plant and animal breeds, etc., in order to restore and ensure the production and business activities of individuals and businesses, and the daily lives of the people.
