Electricity consumption has increased significantly.
During these intensely hot days, electricity consumption in tourist areas of the city has increased significantly at night. According to Hoi An Power Company, the peak electricity load in Hoi An during the recent heatwave increased by approximately 25% compared to the same period last year. This is not only a record increase but also reflects a very high growth rate of the load.
Mr. Nguyen Anh, Head of Hoi An Power Company, acknowledged that the prolonged intense heat and humid nights have led to a surge in electricity demand, creating significant pressure on management and operation. However, with early preparation and the synchronized implementation of technical solutions, Hoi An Power Company is determined to ensure a safe and stable electricity supply to serve the lives of the people, production and business activities, and tourism development in the area. Nevertheless, Hoi An Power Company also hopes that customers will continue to use electricity economically and efficiently, especially during peak hours.

According to Da Nang Power Company, since the beginning of the hot season, electricity demand in the city has continuously increased sharply during midday and evening. The peak load capacity of the city's power system has continuously set new records each day due to the prolonged hot weather and the increased demand for air conditioners and cooling equipment.
Specifically, the peak load capacity increased by approximately 21% compared to the same period last year; the highest daily electricity consumption also increased by 21.5%. Da Nang Power Company forecasts that the load on Da Nang's power system will continue to increase sharply in the coming period.
Da Nang Power Company proactively implements a comprehensive range of technical, operational, and emergency response solutions to ensure safe and stable electricity supply; and promotes the efficient and economical use of electricity.

Maintaining energy security
Da Nang is a crucial high-power receiving, transit, and transmission point for the national power transmission axis from Central and Southern Vietnam to the North via four 500kV transmission lines during the hot season. Maintaining this four-circuit 500kV transmission axis, as well as the 220kV transmission lines and eight substations in the city, is especially important in ensuring a safe and continuous power supply for Da Nang.
According to Nguyen Duy Dung, Deputy Director of Power Transmission Company 2 (Vietnam National Power Transmission Corporation), electricity demand has increased sharply recently, setting many new records. Specifically, peak power increased by 18.2% compared to the same period last year; and consumption reached its highest level ever in the Central and Central Highlands regions.
In this context, the company has ensured the continuous operation of the 220kV and 500kV transmission systems, maintaining energy security in the region and making a significant contribution to ensuring the operation of the national power transmission system.
Notably, during the recent peak of the hot season, the 500kV Central-Northern transmission line transmitted a high capacity of 5,019MW, reaching the calculated transmission limit and contributing to ensuring electricity supply for the North during the peak of the hot season. The company also proactively developed and prepared response scenarios for more extreme situations, including conducting drills to handle transformer failures at the Thanh My 500kV substation...

The A Vuong hydropower plant is designed with a "black start" mode and system to directly supply power to the center of Da Nang city via the 220kV A Vuong - Hoa Khanh transmission line in the event of an extreme situation that isolates the power source in the city center.
Currently, the 220kV Hai Chau substation along with the 220kV Hoa Khanh - Hai Chau transmission line and the 110kV Thuan Phuoc substation along with the 110kV Thuan Phuoc - Chi Lang transmission line have been put into operation, ready to receive power directly from the A Vuong hydropower plant when the national power grid experiences failures or the aforementioned extreme situations occur.
Mr. Cao Huy Bao, General Director of A Vuong Hydropower Joint Stock Company, said: “Every year, the company always prepares plans and conducts drills as required and is ready to ‘black start’ the generators to directly supply electricity to the center of Da Nang city as soon as needed. In addition, the high-voltage power grid in Da Nang city is designed and constructed in a loop configuration, so other hydropower plants can also be mobilized and distributed to supply electricity to the city.”
The Department of Industry and Trade stated that the City People's Committee has issued a document requesting departments, agencies, units, and localities to implement tasks and solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business, and people's lives during the peak period of 2026 and the period of 2027-2030.
Specifically, the City People's Committee requested Nong Son Coal and Power Joint Stock Company to effectively carry out forecasting and planning for the use and supply of coal for electricity production. Power Transmission Company 2 and Da Nang Power Company were instructed to focus on implementing comprehensive solutions to ensure sufficient electricity supply for production, business, and people's lives…
