PV: Ambassador, could you share the significance of establishing the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership for cooperation between the two countries?
Ambassador Nicolai Prytz : Denmark is currently one of the leading countries in the green transition process. We understand that, to achieve this, we need to integrate the concept of green transition into all aspects of life, economy , and society. Therefore, the establishment of a Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries will facilitate a synchronized transition process from the Government level to ministries and businesses in Vietnam.
It should also be noted that Vietnam is the fifth country in the world with which Denmark has decided to establish this partnership. Therefore, you can clearly see the commitments and priorities of the Danish Government in supporting Vietnam's green transition. Over the years, we can see the efforts and commitment of the Vietnamese Government in the field of green transition, from the commitment made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at COP 26, to participation in the Just Energy Transition Programme (JETP), and the approval of the Power Development Plan 8. These are very strong and ambitious commitments. And we, as a long-standing partner of Vietnam, hope that the establishment of a Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries will create conditions for us to continue supporting Vietnam in achieving this goal.
PV: After establishing the Green Strategic Partnership, how will the two sides proceed with cooperation activities in this field, Ambassador?
Ambassador Nicolai Prytz: With this partnership, the two sides will focus on three main levels. First is political relations, strengthening dialogue and high-level exchanges on programs aimed at responding to climate change and promoting green growth.
Secondly, we will strengthen cooperation between the two governments in several ongoing sectors. Both sides will also exchange views to find common ground and commitments to present at the upcoming COP28 conference. Furthermore, Denmark and Vietnam are both members of the Joint Fair Energy Exchange Programme (JETP), and we will continue to cooperate closely within this framework.
Thirdly, regarding the economy, both sides will cooperate in developing appropriate policies and legal frameworks to encourage green investment from the private sector. We will also identify new areas to strengthen cooperation, areas where Denmark has extensive experience and Vietnam also has a need for development.
PV: So, Ambassador, what opportunities for future cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark will the establishment of the Green Strategic Partnership open up?
Ambassador Nicolai Prytz: Denmark began its green transition about three decades ago, and we are confident that we are one of the leading countries in this process. However, not everything Denmark is doing is applicable in Vietnam. But we believe that some of the solutions and best practices that Denmark is implementing can help you find the most suitable solutions. In particular, we will not only present solutions that have been effective in Denmark, but also programs that have failed, as lessons learned for your reference.
Furthermore, the Green Strategic Partnership has also helped attract more Danish businesses to invest in Vietnam. I am very proud to see that the businesses already present here not only produce and generate income, but also care deeply about the rights of their workers, create job opportunities, and contribute to sustainable development, bringing real value to Vietnam.
Furthermore, Vietnam also has a lot of experience in several areas from which we can learn. We have observed that the Vietnamese people are very eager to learn, hardworking, and always find creative ways to improve. Danish experts, upon visiting Vietnam, were also amazed by the interesting methods you are implementing and have learned from them to apply in Denmark.
Therefore, in my opinion, the relationship between the two countries will certainly develop further, especially in the field of green economy.
PV: Thank you, Ambassador!
