On July 9, in Copenhagen (Denmark), Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Secretary of State of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lina Gandlose Hansen co-chaired the third Deputy Foreign Minister-level Political Consultation.
Expressing his pleasure to meet Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang again and conduct political consultations, the Secretary of State of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the P4G conference in Hanoi in April 2025.
Affirming that Denmark attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Partnership and Green Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, State Secretary Lina Gandlose Hansen highly appreciated the positive developments in Vietnam-Denmark relations in recent years, in which the important highlight was the very successful visit to Vietnam by Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (now King of Denmark) in November 2022 and the online meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in November 2023.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang thanked Secretary of State Hansen and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their sincere and warm welcome to the Deputy Minister and the Vietnamese delegation; thanked the Secretary of State personally for always giving Vietnam good feelings and valuable support, including her support and direct participation in the recent P4G conference in Hanoi; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to continuously strengthen and develop the friendship and comprehensive partnership with Denmark, especially in areas where both sides have needs and strengths.
The two sides informed each other about the situation in each country. The Danish Minister of State for Foreign Affairs affirmed that he always closely followed and was very impressed with Vietnam's reforms and great goals; he believed that this was an opportunity to promote the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries and make Vietnam an attractive destination for foreign investors.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated Denmark as a leading country in sustainable development and green growth and achieved important results not only for Denmark, the EU but also for the world.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Secretary of State Hansen highly appreciated the good relations between the two countries over the past half century, since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1971 and agreed that the two sides will coordinate to organize many meaningful activities, increase delegation exchanges at all levels and through different channels, and make joint efforts to promote all areas of cooperation, bringing bilateral relations to a new height, towards the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Denmark in 2026.
The two sides also agreed to maintain and further promote existing cooperation mechanisms, including the Political Consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries, regularly meet and contact at international organizations and multilateral forums, strengthen political trust, create the basis and foundation for other areas of cooperation, and at the same time strengthen coordination and support each other's candidacy for important positions in international and regional organizations.
Vietnam supports Denmark in strengthening relations with ASEAN; Denmark supports Vietnam in its relations with the European Union (EU), especially during the time Denmark assumes the rotating presidency of the European Council for the development and prosperity of the two countries and of ASEAN and the EU of which the two countries are members, contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the world.

Discussing economic, trade and investment cooperation, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly appreciated the support and assistance that Denmark has given to Vietnam, especially in providing official development assistance (ODA) with a total capital of up to 1 billion USD, and at the same time requested Denmark to continue supporting the implementation of rural development, environmental protection and green transformation projects in Vietnam.
The two sides acknowledged the positive results in attracting Danish direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam and agreed to resume the existing exchange mechanism on economy, trade, investment and technology, promoting businesses of the two countries to strengthen cooperation, participate in implementing large investment projects in priority areas of Vietnam and Denmark's strengths such as green growth, circular economy, marine economy, renewable energy, logistics, etc.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang suggested that Denmark, as the rotating President of the European Council in the second half of 2025, have a voice in urging the remaining EU member states to soon ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), thereby creating conditions to promote equal and mutually beneficial investment cooperation between the two sides; provide information so that the European Commission can clearly see Vietnam's efforts in developing sustainable fisheries and combating illegal fishing, thereby promoting the early removal of the yellow card on Vietnam's seafood exports.
The two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate and effectively implement the Action Plan to implement the Comprehensive Partnership and Green Strategic Partnership for the 2024-2025 period; the Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Cooperation Program for the 2020-2025 period (DEPP3) and the next phase.
Denmark continues to support Vietnam in implementing the Resource Mobilization Plan (RMP) to serve the transition to renewable energy, develop a circular economy within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement on climate change and Vietnam's commitments at COP 26 and COP 28.
The two sides discussed ways to remove difficulties and obstacles to continue implementing development cooperation projects and expanding the public-private partnership (PPP) model to support areas vulnerable to climate change, especially the Mekong Delta.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang and Secretary of State Lina Gandlose Hansen also discussed measures to promote cooperation in many other fields such as education - training, health, science - technology, security - defense, transportation, culture, sports, tourism and people-to-people exchange... to fully exploit the potential and strengths of each country, aiming to bring bilateral relations to a new level.
Discussing international and regional issues of mutual concern, Secretary of State Lina Gandlose Hansen highly appreciated Vietnam's positive, proactive and responsible stance and approach to the rapid and complicated developments in the region and the world. The two sides emphasized the need to respect international law and the United Nations Charter in international relations, and support efforts to reform the United Nations and its agencies so that the organization can play an increasingly important role in building a just, peaceful, secure, cooperative and developed world.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Denmark supports ASEAN's stance on the East Sea, including maintaining peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, disputes need to be resolved by peaceful means on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS); supports the early adoption and effective implementation of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the East Sea.

Within the framework of the working trip and co-chairing of the Political Consultation in Denmark, on July 10, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark Jeppe Tranholm Mikkelsen and had a working session with Deputy Minister of Industry, Economy and Finance of Denmark Tine Nielsen Hertz.
At the meetings, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Denmark is a very important partner of Vietnam in Northern Europe, and the relationship between the two countries has been, is and will develop healthily on the basis of political trust and potential to complement each other.
Informing about the current situation in Vietnam with innovations in institutions and policies, especially in economics, science and technology and international integration, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang suggested that this is the time when the two sides need to actively coordinate so that the cooperation between the two countries can develop to new heights, including careful preparation and good organization of delegation exchange activities between the two countries, especially in the last 6 months of 2025 and 2026, reviewing the implementation of existing bilateral agreements, maximizing the EVFTA, promoting other areas such as science - technology, culture - education, energy transition and green development, cooperation on the sea and environment, etc.
The Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark highly appreciated the results of the 3rd Political Consultation at the Deputy Minister level between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs; expressed his delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations since the visit of the Crown Prince, now King of Denmark in November 2022; and was proud that Denmark is Vietnam's leading investment and trade partner in Northern Europe and Vietnam is Denmark's leading partner in ASEAN.
Acknowledging that both sides still have much potential and strengths that can be exploited in the coming time, Permanent Deputy Minister Mikkelsen pledged to do his utmost to promote relations between the two countries, promote the coordinating role of the two Foreign Ministries and expressed his belief that during the EU Presidency, Denmark will effectively contribute to consolidating and deepening Vietnam-EU relations.
Deputy Minister of Industry, Economy and Finance of Denmark Hertz agreed with the trade goals and assessment of the cooperation potential between the two countries that Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang mentioned; supported the strong promotion and improvement of the effectiveness of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of investment, trade, energy transition, green transition, circular economy, especially maritime cooperation including marine and ocean scientific research, offshore wind power development, aquaculture, capacity building and human resource development, etc.
Deputy Minister Hertz highly appreciated Vietnam's commitments at COP 26 and COP 28 and affirmed that he will continue to accompany Vietnam in implementing the above international commitments as well as within the framework of JETP.
On this occasion, the two sides also discussed global issues and agreed to continue supporting each other at multilateral forums and United Nations mechanisms.
