Currently, there are 3 sets of textbooks from 3 publishing houses (VietnamEducation Publishing House, Hanoi National University of Education Publishing House, Ho Chi Minh City National University of Education Publishing House) being used for teaching at schools from grade 1 to grade 12.
According to the reporter, many materials in textbooks need to be revised because they are no longer suitable for the reality of merging into 34 provinces and cities from July 1.
For example, the history - geography textbook for grade 8 (Connecting knowledge with life), page 99, the extension section provides information about Phong Nha - Ke Bang cave (old Quang Binh province) which is no longer suitable for current reality because after the merger, the name Quang Binh province no longer exists.
History - geography subject for grade 4, Knowledge Connection book series (Vietnam Education Publishing House) includes 6 topics, almost all lessons in these 6 topics must be edited with either data, maps, charts or administrative boundary names.
Or the data chart, the area of many provinces and cities will have to change because after the merger of provinces and cities, the data on the old map is no longer suitable, for example, Ho Chi Minh City is over 2,000km2 but after the merger, the area of this city is nearly 6,800km2; the population increased from over 9 million people to over 14 million people.
The place names Lung Cu, Dong Van, and Ha Giang will have to be adjusted to the new administrative boundary names after the merger.

From the perspective of the Vietnam Education Publishing House, we will actively support schools and teachers in using current textbooks in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training," said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung.
