The match between the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and Poland on the evening of August 23, in Phuket (Thailand) was the first match of Vietnamese women's volleyball in the history of the world championship.
In this match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's team lost 1-3 (25-23, 10-25, 12-25 and 22-25). Notably, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won the first half of this match, then lost to the world's third-ranked team.

Thailand's Khaosod newspaper wrote: "The Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost to Poland in the opening match of the world championship, but they excellently beat their opponents in the first set of this match."
“The Vietnamese athletes participated in this tournament without the main striker Bich Tuyen, but they tried their best. At least the Vietnamese women's volleyball team played well in one set, before losing to a strong opponent,” Khaosod added.

Khaosod revealed: “4,000 spectators were present at Saphan Hin Stadium, in Phuket to witness the match in Group G. The highlight of the match that Thai spectators were interested in was the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.
