Even though 30 years have passed, no one has ever forgotten Teresa Teng - Photo: IMDb

Exactly 30 years ago, the legendary singer Teresa Teng passed away. That event was so deeply ingrained in the minds of many that just a year later, Hong Kong director Peter Chan released the film *Sweet Honey*, using the anniversary of her death as a pretext to reunite the two main characters who had been separated for so long.

The most beloved love song in the misty night.

This year, on the anniversary of her death, the past offers music lovers a gift from time: an unreleased recording of Teresa Teng, found in a warehouse in Japan, numbered M18 among many old tapes.

The title of that love song is: Love Song wa Yogiri ga Osuki , which translates to " The Most Beloved Love Song in the Misty Night ." Even more wonderful, it's a composition by musician Takashi Miki and lyricist Toyohisa Araki.

The Moon Represents My Heart - Teresa Teng

In the 1980s, the trio Miki, Araki, and Teresa Teng dominated the Japanese music market. Together, they created immortal memories, like the eternal stalactites of a musical temple:

That's Toki No Nagare Ni Mi Wo Makase (I Only Care About You), a classic love song of both Chinese and Japanese music, which even surpassed "The Moonlight Speaks for My Heart" to take the top spot on the "Top 30 Most Loved Songs of Teresa Teng by Fans" list published by the Teresa Teng Cultural and Educational Foundation;

That's "Return ," a dramatic song expressing the decisive mood of a woman ready to move on from a hurtful relationship, even though it's still full of pain and regret;

That's "The Lover ," a song that presents a more vulnerable side of love, about a woman willing to wait, wait, and wait, even though the man can't openly walk alongside her.

Thanks to "The Lover," we get to see Teresa Teng on stage dressed as a bride, with adorable dance moves, and we also get to see Teresa Teng dressed as Yang Guifei at a concert in Japan.

Teresa Teng

Who doesn't love Teresa Teng?

Compared to songs that have become "artistic masterpieces" (an idiom referring to works of art that leave a lasting fragrance in the literary world, also the words inscribed on the plaque that Taiwanese leader Lee Teng-hui brought to pay respects at Teresa Teng's funeral), "My Favorite Love Song in the Misty Night" may not be the most memorable song.

Perhaps if it had been released back then, its impact might not have lasted as long.

It remains a narrative song about a woman, this time a woman in love, perhaps just entering a passionate, sweet, and intoxicating romance, set against the backdrop of a misty, drizzly night, yet brimming with hope.

Compared to those classic songs, this one is gentler, purer, and much more cheerful. However, because it's a belated gift, knocking on the door long after the late composer Takashi Miki has passed away (this year also marks the 80th anniversary of his birth), this posthumous work takes on additional layers of meaning.

"Teresa Teresa Teng is back!" That's what many headlines said, even if it was only a spiritual return. But suddenly, the music scene, which had become increasingly fragmented and branched out into its own niches, was reunited in a single wave of excitement.

Because who, at least in East Asia and Southeast Asia, doesn't love Teresa Teng? It's not just in Marvel's blockbuster Shangchi a few years ago that Teresa Teng's music was featured; even G-Dragon played Teresa Teng's music in his concerts.

The film "Sweet Sweetness," directed by Chen Kexin and starring Leon Lai and Maggie Cheung, is actually based on the idea of using their shared love for music to shape each person's individual path, allowing them to intersect.

In the song "My Favorite Love Song in the Misty Night," Teresa Teng sings: "Please don't forget me, even when we are far apart."
