Put student safety first

Storm Ragasa (storm No. 9) has made landfall in Vietnam and weakened into a tropical depression. The storm's circulation is forecast to cause widespread heavy rain, including in Thai Nguyen province. Faced with complex and unpredictable developments, the Education sector has quickly activated a response plan, prioritizing the safety of students, teachers and school facilities.

Activate the highest response plan

Implementing Official Dispatch No. 1595/CD-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training ; Official Dispatch No. 07 and No. 08 of the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province, the Department of Education and Training (DET) has consecutively issued Official Dispatch No. 1357/SGDĐT-KHTC dated September 23, 2025 and Official Dispatch No. 1401/SGDĐT-KHTC dated September 24, 2025, requesting urgent implementation of storm prevention and control measures.

Accordingly, all educational institutions are on duty 24/7 to closely monitor the situation, maintain contact with local authorities, rescue forces and meteorological agencies. Schools must absolutely not be negligent or subjective; heads of units are directly responsible to the Director of the Department of Education and Training if damage occurs due to lack of responsibility.

A key point emphasized is the need to develop a plan to ensure student safety. Schools are required to be ready to switch to online learning or postpone classes during storms. At the same time, schools need to establish a close communication channel with parents to manage and grasp the situation, avoiding unfortunate risks.

Along with professional work, educational institutions must review and strengthen their physical facilities, especially in remote schools, where there is a potential risk of flooding and landslides. Assets, equipment, and important records must be moved to safe locations to minimize damage.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Sau, Principal of Tuc Duyen Secondary School (Phan Dinh Phung Ward), said: Immediately after receiving the directive, we checked all facilities, moved computers and important documents to higher floors. At the same time, we informed parents to prepare a plan to keep their children at home in case of bad weather. Student safety is always our top priority.

Community responsibility, determination not to be passive

The Education sector’s proactive response not only aims to protect students and teachers but also contributes significantly to the province’s overall disaster prevention and control work. In the context of Ragasa storm directly affecting Thai Nguyen and neighboring provinces, the Department of Education and Training’s direction demonstrates its close attention and determination.

Ms. Hua Thi Thang, Principal of Duong Tu Minh High School, said: We have fully prepared plans to switch to online learning or suspend the school schedule if necessary, absolutely not allowing students to travel in dangerous conditions. In addition, the school also maintains regular contact with parents to manage the children.

Schools are instructed to be ready to serve as storm shelters for people when conditions are safe. This is a humane instruction, affirming the social role of education in disaster prevention and control.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thinh, Deputy Director of the Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Training, emphasized: We have asked educational institutions to absolutely not be negligent, to be on duty 24/7 to monitor the situation and deploy response plans. All measures must be drastic, timely, and put life safety first. Schools need to be ready for online teaching, review facilities, move assets to safe places, and have plans to support people when necessary.
