Need to tighten food safety management process in schools

Le Thuy General Hospital (Quang Tri province) informed that as of 3:30 p.m. on September 26, the unit had received 40 students suspected of food poisoning after breakfast at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School (Kim Ngan commune). Currently, the unit is mobilizing forces and equipment to examine and treat the students.

Specifically, 14 children are currently being treated in the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department, 14 in the Pediatrics Department and 12 in the Infectious Diseases Department. They have received timely emergency treatment and care so their health is basically stable, and no cases have progressed to a serious stage.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province, immediately after the incident occurred, the unit contacted local authorities, police, health care and schools to coordinate in grasping the situation and taking students with symptoms of poisoning to the hospital. On the morning of September 26, the authorities took sealed samples to investigate the cause of the incident. The Department has issued a document requesting Kim Ngan commune to quickly report on the handling plan as well as promptly visit and encourage students being treated at the hospital; directing schools in communes in the province to review, tighten and carefully check food safety procedures in boarding kitchens...

Previously, as reported by VNA reporters, at around 8:00 a.m. on September 26, after breakfast at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School, many students had symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, diarrhea... The school coordinated with the authorities and parents to mobilize vehicles to take the students to Le Thuy General Hospital for examination and treatment. Initial information said that the students' breakfast included banh tay (a type of cake made from sticky rice and wrapped in banana leaves). The initial cause was suspected to be food poisoning. The case is currently being investigated and clarified by the authorities...
