In IELTS review and exam preparation groups on social networking sites, many Vietnamese candidates shared emails they received on November 12, informing them about the correction of their IELTS scores.

An email sent to some candidates under the name of IELTS by the British Council and IDP announced that this was a technical error affecting some tests.

In the email, IELTS said the issue had resulted in changes to the Listening and Reading component scores, and could also affect the overall score.

Candidates are required to log in to the IELTS online portal (Test Taker Portal) to view their updated results and download their new IELTS Official Test Report Form (TRF).

IELTS emphasizes that the old score report is no longer valid after the new TRF is issued.

According to the records, this technical error is related to IELTS tests taking place from mid-2023 to around September 2025. The commonly adjusted scores range from 0.5 to 1 point.

A candidate who took the IELTS test organized by the British Council on May 18, 2024, said that he got a Reading score of 7.0, much lower than he felt when taking the test, so he had doubts at times but did not dare to appeal because he thought "the marking system cannot be wrong".

However, you recently received an email notifying you of the problem and after checking, you found that your Reading score was adjusted to 8.5. That means the adjusted score of the Reading test is up to 1.5 points.

In the email, IELTS also provides specific instructions on the next steps. After logging into the portal, candidates can view their updated scores and new score reports.

For those who have retaken a skill (One Skill Retake), the system may take approximately 24 hours to display the adjusted score.

According to many candidates who received the email, this score adjustment does not mean much.

Because most of them have used the old IELTS test scores (before adjustment) for purposes such as admission or studying abroad and now they do not need to use the new IELTS results. A long time has passed.

However, according to IELTS, candidates have the option of a full refund or a one-time free retest. This benefit is activated when learners fill in the online form before May 1, 2026.

The expected refund processing time is within 60 working days from the date IELTS receives complete data.
