The mark of the 5th Economic-Defense Brigade.

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - With the motto "Staying close to the people, staying close to the villages, for the development of the border region," officers and soldiers of the 5th Economic-Defense Brigade (KTQP5) are always present at all times and in all places, unafraid of difficulties and hardships, helping the people develop the economy, eradicate hunger and poverty, and improve their lives... This leaves a positive image of the "Uncle Ho's soldiers," contributing to building an increasingly strong all-people border defense posture.

Officers and soldiers of the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade, in coordination with local organizations, assisted the people in harvesting rice in the area where they are stationed.

The 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade is stationed in five communes within the project area: Muong Lat, Pu Nhi, Tam Chung, Quang Chieu, and Muong Chanh. Practical experience shows that the officers and soldiers of the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade consistently stay close to the grassroots, "eating, living, and working together with the people," adhering to the motto "listen to what the people say, explain things so the people understand, and earn the people's trust." Through effective programs, projects, and innovative approaches, the soldiers' efforts and intelligence have left a positive mark, spreading widely and having profound political , social, and humanitarian significance. This has been recognized and highly appreciated by the local Party committees and authorities.

Accordingly, the unit has implemented the construction of farming and livestock models in the project area; coordinated with local authorities to provide native cattle, goats, and pigs to poor households to develop their economy and gradually escape poverty; promoted the dissemination and guidance of livestock and farming techniques to the people, changing their mindset and practices; and sent working groups to coordinate with young volunteer intellectuals to go to villages and hamlets to help people develop their economy and alleviate poverty... For example, the team has built models of breeding native pigs, with 40 mother sows, providing more than 600 piglets to people in the project area each year; models of raising freshwater fish, snails, frogs, Dong Cao chickens, and commercial rabbits; and built 8 farming and livestock models based on the "Raising native black pigs" and "Raising hybrid cattle for breeding" models... for 148 households in Muong Chanh commune. Providing support for 225 breeding cows and 135 breeding buffaloes...

Through economic models, the project has contributed to promoting socio-economic development, increasing people's income, and reducing the poverty rate from 54.47% to 28.36%, in collaboration with local Party committees and authorities.

Alongside guiding the local people in economic development, the unit also actively disseminates the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws to the people, especially those in remote areas who are often exploited by malicious individuals to spread illegal religious doctrines and cling to outdated customs. Therefore, building a cultural life in residential areas is a priority for the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade. In just the last three months of 2024, the unit organized 16 sessions of legal education and awareness campaigns for over 1,200 participants; distributed over 550 leaflets; conducted 8 direct outreach sessions for 43 households on the Party and State's policies on ethnic groups and religions; the Marriage and Family Law; the Law on Drug Prevention and Control, etc.; provided guidance to 68 households on living arrangements, daily life, and building a cultural lifestyle; and organized two cultural exchange events and traditional film screenings in Poong village, Tam Chung commune. Doan Ket neighborhood, Muong Lat commune...

Furthermore, the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade also focuses on investing in infrastructure development such as roads, irrigation works, electricity, clean water, and the construction of village cultural centers. In 2024, using funds from the Ministry of National Defense, the brigade concentrated on building four cultural centers in villages belonging to Quang Chieu and Muong Chanh communes; constructing dams and canals in Can - Tan Huong village, Tam Chung commune; roads in Pa Den - Hua Pu village, Pu Nhi commune; and roads in Quan Dao - Poong village, Quang Chieu commune. Practical experience shows that these programs and projects, upon completion and commissioning, have proven effective, contributing to stabilizing the population, alleviating poverty, and maintaining political security and social order in the border regions of the country.

Through practical and effective actions, the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade has left a positive impression on the people through numerous projects and tasks, contributing to building a solid "people's support" base along the border. During the period 2019-2024, the 5th Economic and National Defense Brigade was awarded the "Ministry of National Defense Emulation Flag," the "Military Region Emulation Flag," and the "Unit of Victory" title; five collectives and three individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Minister of National Defense; ten collectives were awarded the "Unit of Victory" title; many individuals received the "Outstanding Soldier at the grassroots level" title and many other prestigious awards...

Following up on its achievements, in the coming period, with the theme "Unity - Creativity - Decisive Victory," the 5th Economic and Defense Brigade sets out a number of specific tasks to serve as a guiding principle for action, namely: Continuing to seriously and effectively implement President Ho Chi Minh's teachings on "Patriotic Emulation"; successfully achieving the goals and tasks of building the Muong Lat Economic and Defense Zone; improving the quality of training, combat readiness, building a regular army, and ensuring discipline in a thorough and solid manner; effectively implementing projects under the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas giai đoạn 2021-2030 and the Project "Improving the quality and effectiveness of mass mobilization work in special areas of the armed forces of the military region, giai đoạn 2023-2030"...
