The project to preserve, renovate, restore and embellish the tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du is the first project to be funded entirely by socialized funds through the Hue Heritage Conservation Fund.

Nghi Thien Chuong Mausoleum of Empress Tu Du - also known as Xuong Tho Mausoleum - part of the Thieu Tri Mausoleum Complex in Thuy Bang Commune (Hue City, Thua Thien - Hue Province) is the eternal resting place of Empress Dowager Tu Du (also known as Tu Du).

Empress Dowager Tu Du (real name Pham Thi Hang), was the eldest daughter of Minister of Rites Duc Quoc Cong Pham Dang Hung (1764-1825), from Son Quy mound, Tan Nien Dong village, Kien Hoa district, Dinh Tuong town (now Long Hung commune, Go Cong town, Tien Giang province). She was the Royal Consort of King Thieu Tri and the mother of King Tu Duc.

The project to preserve, renovate, restore and embellish the tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du is the first project to be funded entirely by socialized funds through the Hue Heritage Conservation Fund and is an extremely important contribution of the Pham Dang family in joining hands with the State to preserve, maintain and promote the cultural heritage values of the Hue Monuments Complex.

Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said that the project started on June 13, 2023. The implementation process was carried out carefully to ensure that the original elements of the monument were not affected.

The tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du was built in the early 20th century in the west of Hue city, in Cu Chanh village, Thuy Bang commune, Hue city, Thua Thien - Hue province.

The tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du is located in the overall landscape of King Thieu Tri's tomb, with a layout in the direction of "inner gate, outer gate". This is also a typical architectural form from the time of the Nguyen lords.

After more than 100 years of existence, although the overall appearance of the tomb of Empress Tu Du, Nghi Thien Chuong, is still quite intact. However, the impact of history and unfavorable natural environmental conditions such as heat, humidity, heavy rain... have significantly affected the integrity of the relic.

With the attention and support of authorities, researchers, Hue lovers, especially the family of Mr. Huynh Van Manh and Ms. Pham Dang Tuy Hoa (representative of the Pham Dang family), the project was funded through the Hue Heritage Conservation Fund established by the Government under Decree 84/2022/ND-CP dated October 20, 2022, with a total amount of more than 6.8 billion VND and 49 La Han pine trees.

The project to preserve, renovate, restore and embellish the tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du includes items such as: Pillar; Tan Nguyet lake and convection sewer system; courtyard, steps in front of the tomb; natural courtyard; gate, outer wall and inner wall.

The project was inaugurated on June 7, 2024. The People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue province awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to express gratitude to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Huynh Van Manh and Pham Dang Tuy Hoa for their efforts in preserving, restoring and promoting the value of relics belonging to the Complex of Hue Monuments.

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Empress Dowager Tu Du (born June 20, 1810 and died May 22, 1901) was the most famous Empress Dowager in nurturing and leaving behind many valuable lessons in educating her children. During her 78 years at the throne as an advisor, she participated in political discussions, devoted herself to the people and the country, and played an important role in the politics of the Nguyen Dynasty in the first half of the 19th century.

The project to preserve, renovate, restore and embellish the tomb of Nghi Thien Chuong Queen Tu Du has been completed, contributing significantly to the completion of the overall architecture - landscape - culture of King Thieu Tri's tomb, worthy of being a precious cultural asset of humanity, ranked by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage...
