Invest in more electric charging stations along the North-South Expressway.
At rest stops along the eastern North-South Expressway from Thanh Hoa province to Ca Mau , investors are urgently deploying and putting into operation electric vehicle charging stations, providing green fuel for vehicles.
According to an update from the Vietnam Road Administration, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group ( Petrolimex ) has invested in 9 rest stops; of which, the Mai Son station on National Highway 45 (Km329+700) has put into operation 10 charging stations on each side, each station with 2 ports, equivalent to 20 parking spaces for electric vehicles on each side.
Xuan Khiem Group has invested in two rest stops: Ham Nghi - Vung Ang (Km534+310) and Vung Ang - Bung (Km594+400). Three charging stations have been installed on each side, providing six parking spaces for electric vehicles to charge.
Chau Thanh TTC Company invested in the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet rest stop (Km205), which has put into operation a station on the right side of the route with 7 charging stations, equivalent to 14 parking spaces for electric vehicles to charge; and a station on the left side of the route with 6 charging stations, equivalent to 12 parking spaces for electric vehicles to charge.
Currently, investors have planned to add more charging stations at rest stops; and have a roadmap to expand the multi-standard charging system to meet the diverse needs of customers.
For example, Xuan Khiem Group has deployed rooftop solar power to partially self-finance its clean electricity supply; simultaneously, it is researching and proposing a plan for the objectives and infrastructure of supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen; and proposing to include the Xuan Khiem rest stop in the list of pilot units for the national green transportation infrastructure model.
Chau Thanh TTC Company is committed to continuing research and proposing solutions for providing green energy such as rooftop solar power, battery storage systems, and fast charging stations at rest stops, in accordance with operational needs, technical infrastructure conditions, and the orientation of green transportation development.
Petrolimex will also research and develop infrastructure for liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG), hydrogen, biofuels, and low-carbon synthetic fuels… targeting heavy vehicles that are difficult to fully electrify, such as trucks and container vehicles.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, rest stops are designed with electric charging systems, but there are no unified regulations regarding the number of charging stations, capacity, and the provision of green energy at these rest stops.
The Vietnam Road Administration has proposed that the Ministry of Construction develop standards or regulations on electric charging systems at rest stops to ensure uniformity in the construction and management of electric charging station infrastructure and the provision of green fuel at rest stops.
In addition, the Ministry of Construction is developing criteria for green rest stops and a roadmap for converting rest stops to green standards… to ensure uniformity in the construction and management of infrastructure for electric charging stations and green fuel supply at rest stops in the future.
