Starting on May 24th, at the Da Nang Children's Palace swimming pool (Hoa Cuong ward), the City Youth Union, the City Children's Council, and the Children's Palace have jointly organized free swimming lessons for 100 young people. The course will last until the end of July 2026, with two sessions per week (6-7 am), fitting the schedules of many students.

During the swimming course, students are guided through warm-up exercises, basic swimming techniques, self-floating skills, handling dangerous situations in the water, and first aid for drowning victims. Experienced teachers directly guide and support students in practicing the correct methods, minimizing the risk of cramps and other safety hazards. Notably, on the opening day, 20 sets of swimwear were donated to underprivileged students, helping them to participate with peace of mind.

Mr. Nguyen Nhan, Director of the Da Nang Children's Palace, said that in addition to classes at the main facility, the unit will open more free swimming classes at its second facility in Tam Ky ward and at the Da Nang City Youth Union headquarters in the near future. This will provide more students with access to a safe learning environment, raising awareness of preventing drowning accidents in the community, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Not only focusing on central areas, many Youth Union branches are expanding their free swimming lessons to students in disadvantaged areas, helping children in mountainous regions acquire safe water skills. Currently, the Youth Union of Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports is coordinating with the Youth Union of Tay Giang commune to survey and compile a list of approximately 200 ethnic minority students to participate in free swimming lessons as part of the 2026 summer youth volunteer campaign.

The program, scheduled to launch in early June, will focus on teaching basic swimming techniques, rescue skills, and water accident prevention to both students and local teachers. Alongside swimming lessons, youth union members will also place warning signs in rivers and streams with deep water areas, contributing to raising awareness of accident prevention among the public and young people. With direct instruction from instructors, students will have access to systematic and technically correct training methods.

According to Bui Dang Toan, Secretary of the Youth Union of Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports, in addition to the class in Tay Giang, the unit also plans to open a free swimming course for about 100 children at Hope Village (Thanh Khe ward) and organize a community swimming instruction class at Thanh Khe beach in June.

According to the City Youth Union's plan, during this year's summer youth volunteer campaign, Youth Union branches throughout the city will implement 350 free swimming lessons for children and teenagers, including those in both lowland and mountainous areas. The classes will also focus on instructing students on how to handle dangerous situations, seek help, and raise awareness of drowning prevention, contributing to minimizing tragic accidents that may occur to children.
