Currently, applying science and technology (S&T) to industries and fields with potential and advantages is a smart and effective strategy. Therefore, in recent years, all levels, sectors, and localities in the province have promoted research and application of S&T in all areas of production and life, making an important contribution to the socio -economic development of the province.

In implementing Resolution 05 dated September 10, 2021, of the Provincial Party Committee on developing a modern, sustainable, and high-value-added agricultural sector, and Decision No. 80 of the Provincial People's Committee, research and application of scientific and technological advancements in agriculture have been focused. Recently, the Department of Science and Technology has concentrated its research on key crop and livestock varieties, such as: improving the quality of cattle herds using imported semen, breeding and commercially raising hybrid goats, selecting native fruit tree species, and restoring mother rice varieties…
In addition, many technological techniques have been applied to serve clean and organic agricultural production linked to value chains, such as: solutions for restructuring rice production, sustainable production and consumption of gum arabic, organic aloe vera production linked to value chains, sustainable intensive cashew cultivation, application of advanced techniques for garlic cultivation on sandy soil, building models of organic dragon fruit production, NH01-152 grape production, and apple production linked to value chains… Furthermore, many models applying advanced science and technology have been transferred and developed to contribute to the rapid introduction of agricultural techniques into local production, such as: hydroponic vegetable cultivation models, spotted eel farming models, application of biological products in sea bass farming, and Japanese okra production models…
Besides agriculture, tourism is also one of the province's strengths. Therefore, research and application of scientific and technological advancements in this field are also given attention, aiming for sustainable tourism development. Successful research results will help position the province's tourism brand and register trademark protection, building a tourism brand identity for Binh Thuan province. Accordingly, scientific and technological tasks have focused on researching and evaluating the unique value of biodiversity and natural conditions in the Bung Thi Hot Spring area to serve the goal of conservation and ecotourism development. Research on influencing factors and proposing solutions to preserve, enhance, and promote the Bau Trang scenic area…
In particular, the Department has always paid attention to and invested in research and application of scientific and technological advancements in the health sector, focusing on the preservation, development, and promotion of potential medicinal plant resources in the locality. Accordingly, four scientific and technological projects have been implemented. These include: applying scientific and technical advancements to build a model for linking production and consumption of medicinal herbs and functional foods from hibiscus in Binh Thuan; extracting essential oils from the medicinal plant *Roccella Montagnei* to create a distinctive product for Phu Quy district; producing functional foods to support the treatment of gout from the lichen species *Roccella Montagnei* in Tuy Phong district; and researching, investigating, and collecting medicinal plant varieties and proposing a plan for the conservation and development of medicinal plants in Binh Thuan.
Strengthening the widespread application of scientific and technological achievements.
It can be seen that the results of scientific research and the application of advanced science and technology models, after being successfully implemented, are promptly handed over for application and replication in production. However, the spread is still slow, and the application results are not yet widespread enough to create a general trend in society. The reasons are the lack of funding and human resources for implementation. In addition, the formation, management, and use of science and technology development funds in enterprises are still difficult. To date, only one enterprise in the entire province (Binh Thuan Rubber Company Limited) has established a science and technology development fund…
Therefore, it is necessary to continue innovating thinking, strengthening the leadership role of the Party and the management of the State in the development of science and technology, in order to fulfill the task of "Promoting research and application of scientific and technological advancements in production development and improving people's lives," which is identified as one of the three breakthroughs to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th Congress of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, term 2020-2025.
According to the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, in the coming period, it is necessary to focus resources to ensure the annual investment from the state budget for science and technology as stipulated in the Law on Science and Technology; attract social resources to invest in science and technology, ensuring that state-owned enterprises allocate 3% to 10% of their taxable income and non-state enterprises are encouraged to allocate up to 10% of their taxable income to establish a science and technology development fund. Enhance the proactive role of sectors and localities in advising and proposing science and technology tasks from the central to local levels. In particular, promote research, application, and transfer of new technical and technological advancements into production to create breakthroughs in product and goods quality, especially in the province's advantageous sectors.
