An error appeared in the formula data section of the specialized Physics entrance exam for 10th grade in Ho Chi Minh City, forcing the examination board to make adjustments and give all candidates an additional 15 minutes to complete the exam.

On the afternoon of June 2nd, candidates applying for specialized classes in Ho Chi Minh City began their specialized subject exams. However, after the bell rang signaling the end of the exam at 4:30 PM, candidates taking the Physics exam at Trung Vuong High School (Saigon Ward) had not yet left the exam room. This caused considerable anxiety among parents waiting outside.

According to Tri Thức - Znews , the cause stemmed from an error in the specialized Physics exam. The examination board subsequently announced a correction and allowed all candidates an additional 15 minutes to complete the exam.

Hoang Ba, a student from Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, stated that the error lay in the cosine theorem formula. According to him, the correct formula should be BC² = AB² + AC² - 2AB × AC × cosA, while the exam paper mistakenly wrote BC² = AB² + AC² - 2AB × AB × cosA.

"I discovered the error in the question right away while working on the exam, but I continued solving it because I thought there would be a solution later. Some students also questioned it, but the invigilators could only record the error and report it to the examination board; they couldn't independently adjust the professional content," Bá told Tri Thức - Znews .

The male student stated that he had proactively corrected the formula and continued working on the exam, so he was not significantly affected. It wasn't until near the end of the exam that the invigilator officially announced the error in the test paper.

Afterward, the candidates were kept back to sign confirmation of additional time allotted for the exam, and an extra 15 minutes were added. Hoang Ba stated that the candidates leaving the exam room later than usual was not only due to an incident but also because this year's exam was quite long. Many candidates used 3-4 sheets of paper, so the invigilators had to carefully check before collecting the papers to avoid errors.

Commenting on the exam, a male student from Tran Dai Nghia High School said that the exam consisted of 5 questions, each worth 2 points, with many sub-questions. Question 2 covered new knowledge, while the remaining questions were familiar but required a higher level of application.

"The questions weren't too unfamiliar, but they were more difficult than the types we had reviewed. Some students were able to answer quite a few correctly, but many others struggled," the male student said.

At the same exam center, Khai Ninh, a student from Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, said that candidates were only informed about the error in the exam paper around 4:28-4:29 PM. The male student also confirmed that the data in the exam paper had mistakenly written AC as AB in the cosine theorem formula. However, because he already knew the correct formula, he was able to complete the exam normally.

"I followed the standard formulas from the beginning, so I wasn't affected much. I completed 4 out of 5 questions on the exam," Ninh shared, adding that she applied to the specialized Physics class at Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students.

Speaking to reporters about the incident involving the specialized Physics exam, a leader from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training confirmed that there were data errors in the specialized Physics exam. Immediately after discovering the error, the examination board made corrections and allowed all candidates an additional 15 minutes to complete the exam.

According to this source, the relevant department is continuing to review the issue to determine an appropriate course of action. If it is determined that the error in the exam directly affected the candidates' results, the education sector may consider canceling the question or awarding the maximum score for the incorrect question.
