Ms. Thuy's family was previously in extremely difficult circumstances. They owned no land, her husband worked as a hired laborer, and she worked as a domestic helper to support their children and three young grandchildren. Their dilapidated house was in danger of collapsing at any moment. Faced with this situation, the Women's Union of An Binh Ward mobilized support to provide Ms. Thuy's family with a "Shelter of Love" worth 70 million VND, helping her to have a stable home, work with peace of mind, and improve her life.
In Vi Tan ward, the work of caring for disadvantaged women members during Tet (Lunar New Year) was implemented specifically and tailored to each individual's situation. Accordingly, the Women's Union of the ward organized the program "Warm Clothes of Compassion - Sharing Love," distributing 17 gift packages and setting up a "0-dong" clothing stall with over 200 sets of new and used but still good clothes for women in need to choose from. Ms. Thi Den from Area 5 was very moved to participate in the "0-dong" clothing stall and receive Tet gifts. She shared: "I sell potatoes and corn at the market all year round, so it's very difficult for me to have a decent Tet celebration. Thanks to the care of the women, my grandchildren and I have new clothes to wear for Tet, and we also received rice and money to buy cakes and sweets for the New Year's Eve offering. For me, having rice and cakes at home for Tet is already happiness."
The warm Tet atmosphere is also spreading in O Mon ward. The Women's Union of the ward recently organized the distribution of 35 Tet gifts for the Lunar New Year 2026 (each gift containing essential goods, worth 300,000 VND) and 4 health insurance cards to families of members and women in particularly difficult circumstances.
Alongside welfare-related activities, the Women's Union at all levels organized the "Spring Market - Applying Information Technology in Tet Shopping," which both generated funds to support disadvantaged women and children and helped members network, promote products, and foster an entrepreneurial spirit. Ms. Duong Thi Kim Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thoi An Hoi commune and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the commune, said: "At the market, the women's union branches in the hamlets displayed and sold local specialties such as cakes, jams, fruits, and OCOP products. At the same time, we will introduce cashless payment methods via QR code. Through this activity, the Union will mobilize additional resources from benefactors and plans to provide more than 50 gifts to support disadvantaged women and children during Tet."
Ms. Tran Thi Hang, Vice President of the Can Tho City Women's Union, said: “With the motto “leaving no one behind” and “not letting women and children lack Tet (Lunar New Year) due to poverty,” the Women's Union at all levels in the city has been implementing many meaningful programs: “Tet of Love for Orphaned Women and Children,” “Spring of Love - Giving Smiles,” “Children and Spring”… In many localities, Union officials also directly visit homes to inquire about their well-being, encourage them, and guide them on how to do business, access loans, and suitable livelihood models to gradually stabilize their lives.”
