In 2025, the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam will be over 1.16 million, an increase of nearly 94,000 compared to 2024. Of these, nearly 98% will take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program, while the remaining more than 2% will take the exam under the 2006 General Education Program.
The 2025 high school graduation exam will take place over two days, June 26th and 27th.
From 2025, students studying under the 2018 General Education Program will take the high school graduation exam with 4 subjects: 2 compulsory subjects (Vietnamese Literature, Mathematics) and 2 elective subjects from the 12th-grade curriculum (Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics & Law Education, Informatics, Technology). The exam will be held over 3 sessions: 1 session for Vietnamese Literature, 1 session for Mathematics, and 1 session for the two elective subjects. The Vietnamese Literature exam is essay-based and lasts 120 minutes (Reading Comprehension 4 points, Writing 6 points); Mathematics is multiple-choice and lasts 90 minutes; the remaining subjects are multiple-choice and last 50 minutes.
Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program exam will participate in four exam sessions: one for Literature, one for Mathematics, one for an elective subject (Natural Sciences or Social Sciences), and one for a Foreign Language.
