In mid-September 2025, during a meeting with the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Lam Dong province, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien shared these views, highlighting the potential and strengths of Lam Dong province in socio -economic development. According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province, in the revised Power Development Plan VIII, Lam Dong proposed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade to add a total capacity of 20,530 MW. However, according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, especially the criteria for grid connection and capacity evacuation, and overlapping mineral resources, the approved plan only reached 6,598 MW. Lam Dong's energy mobilization for the plan has only reached 32%. Thus, the potential for energy development in the province remains very large.

Based on the approved plan, Lam Dong province is developing a plan to implement the Power Development Plan VIII with specific content, tasks, and timelines. Simultaneously, it is reviewing and assessing the compatibility of projects listed in Power Development Plan VIII with other plans, as well as considering factors related to national security and defense, the current status of land areas, etc., to redefine boundaries and locations, and especially to update connection plans according to substations and power grids in the revised Power Development Plan VIII. Lam Dong province has also accelerated the process of updating Power Development Plan VIII into provincial plans, construction plans, and land use plans at all levels. In addition, it is developing a plan for developing the power supply network within the provincial plan, organizing the selection of investors to implement power projects, and creating favorable conditions for project implementation... all aimed at exploiting and utilizing renewable energy sources, new energy, and clean energy to serve the socio-economic development of the locality. However, Lam Dong province has encountered several obstacles in the implementation of renewable energy development, such as: the lack of basic surveys on renewable and new energy sources (lack of information and databases on wind resources, solar radiation, etc.), leading to difficulties in preparing feasibility studies/investment proposals for projects and related bidding documents; the absence of regulations on the authority, procedures, and processes for surveying, measuring radiation, installing wind measurement towers, and installing onshore wind measurement towers to serve as a basis for implementing offshore wind power projects, measuring wind at sea, and determining the use of water surface area (including sea surface) and land area for 1MW of wind and solar power; and the basic survey of renewable energy resources in the marine area falls under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , while the responsibility for ensuring energy security falls under the authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade...

According to energy experts, future electricity supply will depend heavily on the development of base-load power sources (coal-fired power plants, LNG power plants), renewable energy sources, battery storage, etc. Renewable energy is an inevitable trend. The shift towards reducing the proportion of fossil fuels in electricity production and increasing the use of renewable and new energy sources is not only a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also opens up opportunities for the growth of a green economy. With abundant clean energy resources, especially offshore wind and solar power, Lam Dong has favorable conditions to attract investment projects in the renewable energy sector. Many large energy companies have come to Lam Dong to survey and implement projects, raising expectations for a clean industry that links economic growth with environmental protection. Developing renewable energy also helps localities diversify their electricity supply sources, promote the bauxite mining industry, deep processing of agricultural products, and supporting services, create more jobs, and contribute to shifting the economic structure towards green and sustainable growth, while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.
