Proposal to spend 29 trillion VND on a 120 km expressway between Lang Son and Thai Nguyen.

TPO - According to a proposal from Lang Son province, the expressway connecting with Thai Nguyen will be approximately 120 km long, with a total estimated investment of about 29,000 billion VND from public investment funds and other legal sources.

Recently, the People's Committee of Lang Son province submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction suggesting the construction of an expressway connecting Lang Son and Thai Nguyen provinces to be included in the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the People's Committee of Lang Son province, this is a highway belonging to the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen - Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway axis, with a total length of approximately 355 km. Of this, the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang section, 165 km long, has been included in the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway starts at the intersection with the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway (Lang Son province) and ends at the intersection with the Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan expressway (Thai Nguyen province).

This expressway has a total length of approximately 120 km, of which the section through Lang Son province is about 70 km long; and the section through Thai Nguyen province is about 50 km long. The expressway is designed with 4 lanes and a speed of 100 km/h.

The total investment is estimated at approximately 29,000 billion VND. The People's Committee of Lang Son province plans to invest in the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway project during the 2026-2030 period, using medium-term public investment funds for the 2026-2030 period and other legal sources of capital.

After receiving the proposal, the Ministry of Construction sent a document conveying its opinion to the People's Committee of Lang Son province regarding the project. Accordingly, the Ministry of Construction informed that the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province has approved the adjustment of the Thai Nguyen provincial planning, which includes the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction requested the People's Committee of Lang Son province to review and update the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway route into the Lang Son provincial planning as a basis for implementing the next steps.

"In the event that the Lang Son - Thai Nguyen expressway is added to the Lang Son provincial planning, the Ministry of Construction requests the People's Committee of Lang Son province to coordinate with the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province to study the regulations in Article 30 of the Law on Public Investment to report to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of assigning one locality as the managing agency," the Ministry of Construction stated, adding that during the process of reviewing and studying the adjustment of the road network planning according to the national master plan, the Ministry of Construction will consider and assess the possibility of adding these expressways.

In addition, the Ministry of Construction reports that road transport connections are currently made through radial expressways to Hanoi, and the Ring Road 5 - Hanoi Capital Region.

According to the Ministry of Construction, in order to promote connectivity between the two localities, it is necessary to study the planning of a highway connecting Lang Son and Thai Nguyen provinces.

Currently, Lang Son is under construction on two expressways: Dong Dang - Tra Linh and Huu Nghi - Chi Lang, connecting Cao Bang and Lang Son provinces, and the Hanoi - Bac Ninh - Lang Son expressway axis. Upon completion, these two expressways will open up opportunities for economic and infrastructure development in the vibrant border economic zone of Lang Son. They will also create open spaces for the border corridor connecting Cao Bang - Lang Son - Quang Ninh and the northern economic region with the center of Hanoi.
