Only now does Liverpool remember Klopp.

For the second time in his career, Mohamed Salah stunned Liverpool's management by launching a verbal attack on the club.

The first time was towards the end of Jurgen Klopp's tenure, in the 2023-2024 season. And more recently, after the draw against Leeds United in the 15th round of the Premier League.

Salah's Ronaldo-like personality

The common thread in both instances of Salah's "rebellion" is that he was constantly benched after a period of poor form. The "Egyptian King" is known for his huge ego, extremely high personal ambition, and remarkable determination in his career.

These are the characteristics that football fans more or less associate with Ronaldo. Most of the time, that personality has benefited the team. It is thanks to his remarkable determination that Salah has maintained a professional training attitude throughout his career. In the summer of 2022, Liverpool decided to sell Sadio Mane and keep Salah because of this.

What happened afterward showed that Liverpool were right during that period. Mane's form plummeted after just one year at Bayern Munich, then drifted to Al Nassr and has remained without a trophy ever since. In contrast, Salah has scored an additional 94 goals for the team since the summer of 2022, bringing his total to 250 goals while wearing the "Reds" shirt.

Salah wasn't exaggerating when he declared himself Liverpool's "best attacking star of this generation." Last season, his explosive form helped Liverpool win the Premier League in an incredibly improbable fashion. They parted ways with manager Jurgen Klopp, entering the new season with virtually no new signings (they did buy Chiesa, but the Italian midfielder was injured for almost the entire season). And then, thanks to Salah's resilience, Liverpool had an unimaginably successful season.

It's not easy to quell the rebellion.

Everything has two sides. Performances like Salah's last season easily led to Liverpool being labeled a "one-man team." And indeed, this season they collapsed as Salah's form declined. This was predictable, prompting Liverpool's management to spend heavily on superstars at Anfield last summer, with the trio of Isak, Wirtz, and Ekitike costing the club nearly 400 million euros.

Things haven't gone smoothly so far, with the new signings not performing well enough, and Salah's decline accelerating. But the most significant issue emerged after the draw against Leeds, when Salah publicly criticized manager Arne Slot and the Liverpool board for "mistreating and failing to protect the player."

In most top-level football, such a move would be seen as a serious rebellion, especially coming from the team's number one star. And Liverpool were obviously no exception. A year and a half ago, they accepted the clash between Salah and Klopp as "part of life." That was at a time when Klopp had already decided to leave in the summer, and Salah had only one year left on his contract.

More importantly, Klopp is a brilliant manager who possesses both the grace and authority to his players. He resolved the issue with Salah very quickly. And by the end of the season, the two were seen exchanging heartfelt hugs at Klopp's farewell ceremony.

Meanwhile, Slot is currently far inferior to Klopp in terms of status, ability, and problem-solving skills. The Dutch strategist was once the biggest beneficiary when Salah exploded onto the scene, bringing him his first major title as a coach, and now he has suddenly turned against the team's number one star because of Liverpool's recent poor run of form. And reports from the English press indicate that veteran stars like Van Dijk are siding with Salah.

Every team has its ups and downs. But right now, Liverpool desperately misses Jurgen Klopp, a man capable of taming oversized egos and lifting the spirits of those who were feeling down.
